My 1973 hit release commercial 45, on Epic 10967, is in stereo, has a listed time of (3:28), but an actual time of (3:24). This song had originally been released a couple of weeks earlier, on Epic 10945, in a differently-mixed, listed (3:02) version. Epic had originally intended the flip, "Hangin' Around", to be the marketed A-side to radio. However, radio had different ideas, and Epic then opted to quickly give the earlier "Frankenstein" 45 mix a re-do, once it was becoming apparent that the soon-to-be-classic instrumental wasn't gonna turn out to be the "throwaway B-side" after all!

There are two db CDs that run (3:01), and for which Pat currently notes is an
"edit of the LP version". And while that is true information, more specifically,
this particular edit is, in fact, the earlier, non-hit 45 mix, issued as the
intended B-side of the Epic 10945 single, that I've described in my earlier
post.

And to make things just a little more confusing, the early promo
copy - which is actually labeled 5-10945 with matrix # JZSS
157457 - is also marked "DJ Re-Service" whereas the remix, 5-
10967 and # JZSS 158228, does not have that identification.
The times on both are, as Jim listed, correct.

Does anyone have a dub of the 3:01 version that I can hear? I want to see where the edit points are & if it's actually a different mix.

And the whole uncut tjhing was at least 2 hour
originally, but recut and re-patched and re-arranged,
ergo,m "FRANKENSTEIN!" Orig.no release longer than the
album, though a,live version may reveal a still much
longer one lol. (Great song, by the way).

Can someone list the 2 CD's that contain the 3:01 version listed in the DB.
Never knew the original b-side was just an edit of the LP mix/version.

I realize some may consider it even blasphemy to discuss the 1983 remake (lol), but I could NOT see starting a new thread for the Edgar Winter single (12" & 7") titled "Frankenstein 1984."
Even the Halloween compilations all seem to have the original 1973 performance, which is a little surprising to me considering the 1984 version actually sounds like it has something to do with Halloween and (I assume) would be MUCH cheaper to license, since it wasn't the original hit version.
The United States got a 12" with the full-length "Monster Version" on side A, and a "Human Version" and a "Monster Rap" on the B side. Releases in the Netherlands, Belgium, across Europe (including Germany) labeled the "Monster Version" as "Monstermix" but appear to be the same recording.
The 7" had the "Instrumental" version on side A, and the "Rap Edit Version" on side B. Europe called side B the "Rap Version," but again it appears to be the same recording.
Both 12" and 7" were released as promo discs, but were identical as far as content, just a different label. Although most labels show the record company as "Body Rock," Belgium & The Netherlands had it on the "Megadisc" label, and Germany & the rest of Europe got "Frankenstein 1984" on the more legitimate looking Virgin label.
There was also an involved music video produced with Edgar Winter playing the role of the good doctor along with appearances from the monster and the bride. The Tommy Boy Records YouTube video channel has it, and another copy confirms it was played during the lifetime of the VH1 Classic video channel.
That's 100% of the information I've been able to find about this particular song (other than the beat sounds painfully dated). I haven't been able to find audio of the "Human Version" or "Monster Rap," and the only audio of the "Monster Version" I have found is clearly from vinyl (not de-clicked).
Does anybody know if any of these versions ever made it to a digital format? I think this would be a HOOT to play this on my 80s station on Halloween night but I would much rather be able to play a digital master from a source tape.

I unironically like the "Monster Version" as a big remix fan and have been searching for it on CD to no avail, ditto all the 1983 mixes.
