My commercial 45 has a listed time of (2:35), but an actual time of (2:32). The two current CD appearances in the database for this song both run (2:29).

Gary, I always especially appreciate feedback from you, because of your amazing promo 45 collection, your extensive Top 40 DJ major market experience during this time, your memory, and your ear for detail. Unfortunately, I have found at least 100 examples of at least a :02 time difference between my stock 45's and my commercial 45's run time, for the same song. They always have different deadwax. I do not have a "Niki Hoeky" promo 45, but I will take your findings as gospel, sir. And I will now bump up the "total number of examples" to 101!

Now the :02 difference between stock and promo....would that be a different fade for the two or a speed issue? Hmm....the only 45 in my collection where i know the stock and promo are different is for Baby Talk by Jan and Dean where the promo 45 stops abruptly 2 seconds before the stock 45 does...

All my needledrops are done the exact same way: front end edited so the song begins at 0.4 seconds and the fade is the entire fade to the end of the tape. In a few cases, since some records are worn or have a click that I cannot remove, I'll fade out a second or so early. With Nike Hoeky, no such early fade was needed. The total time is then easy to compute.
