The US 45 is an easy edit of the LP version from Whitney. Here are edit instructions:
Keep 0:00.0-2:05.3 of the LP version.
Edit on downbeat.
Keep 2:21.4-4:16.2 of the LP version.
Put a 32-beat sinusoidal fade from 4:00.1-4:16.2.
In the mixdown the edit appears at at 2:05.3 and the fade starts at 3:43. Total length is about 4:02.
Note that the true US 45 is a little faster than the CD.
The true 45 is 119.5 BPM and the CD is 119.1 BPM, so you'll need to increase the pitch/tempo of the CD by about 0.3%.

Does anyone else think that the 45 version sounds brighter than the album version?
I noticed when comparing the edit I had made from the "Whitney" CD to the 45 version on the CD single ASCD-9641.
I did not equalize or make any alterations to the sound of the version I edited. Listened to both under same conditions.

I didn't hear much of EQ difference between the 45 and the Whitney CD. I thought both sounded a bit cold and shrill - it's not exactly a warm-sounding recording.

I extracted the files and they do sound pretty much the same, never mind : )

5-Bonus Beats (listed 4:24; actual 4:26)
6-The Voice (listed 4:10; actual 4:17)

Ditto what Hits Man said!
Perhaps, Pat could have a special area of the forum just for 45 edit instructions... ;)

I just realized that Arista used this remix for the stock single
in the UK (Arista 43). I'd never heard this mix until I played
this 45, earlier this week. My local stations only played the
LP or US single version.

The main top 40 station in Seattle at the time (Cube 93 FM)
played mostly the Edited Remix.
But that was really common in the UK in the late '80s, for
the single to use a remix edit that was promo-
only in the US. The last three singles from Madonna's
"True Blue" album used the remix/edits for the commercial
singles in the UK (and most of Europe), whereas the U.S.
singles all used the album versions.

I remember hearing the Edited Remix a lot back in the late 80's and early 90's on WPLJ and Z100 so I can confirm it did get airplay. It also was a staple on WKTU when it first went on air in NY.
