"Because Of You" by Ne Yo shows up on the Now 25 cd with a running time of (3:44) and on the Ne Yo cd "Because Of You" it runs (4:25). Anyone have information on where this (3:44) edit comes from?

That should be the 3:44 "Remix Featuring Kanye West," which was the digital single version.

However, I don't know I'd call that the "hit version" -- doesn't look like the remix ever charted on the Hot Digital Tracks chart. Looks like the album mix was the main selling version.

I don't listen to current Top 40 music much anymore, but each time I heard "Because of You" on my local rhythmic Top 40 station during the song's rise up the chart, it was the 4:25 album version. Prior to the release of Ne-Yo's Because of You album this past spring, I'm pretty sure the title track was offered as a pre-release download on I-Tunes in its album version form and that this is the version that propelled the song to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100.

My version from JonesTM Prime Cuts runs is labeled [Radio] and runs 3:46.

The version on Now 25 is not the remix featuring Kanye West. It could be the JonesTM prime cuts radio edit but would that be considered a true dj edit as it was not distributed by the record company involved?

Pat, I have the Def Jam promo CD for this one and it is the (3:44) version that also appears on Now 25. I consider this the "official" version and it's not the remix w/Kanye West.

Paul can you give us the complete information on this promo cd single such as listing all the tracks along with the various names of the edits such as "radio edit" and the running times?

Def Jam 16708-2

1. Clean (3:44)
2. Instrumental (3:44)

That's interesting that the lead track running 3:44 on Paul Haney's promo CD single is listed as "Clean" because I've never heard anything that has struck me as "dirty" about the album version. Given all the gutteral language and debauchery that regularly infiltrates the airwaves with today's Top 40 lyrics, I'm surprised Def Jam felt the need to issue a "clean" edit for such a tame song like "Because of You". Anyone have some insight on this?

Todd, I can't speak for the record company, but I'm guessing that because there are so many dirty versions of songs out there (but not in this case), that they wanted to be clear that this song is indeed "clean".

It should also be noted that the 12" commercial vinyl single (Def Jam 008678) is identical to the CD promo.
