does anyone know if the song "dirty deeds" by joan jett was ever issued on a commercial 45 with the catalog number 73215...all the 45's i've encountered have the cat number of 73267....the cassingle seams to be the only format that has the 73215 catalog number.....can anyone confirm my suspicions?

Our 45 also has the 73267 number.

this one is really pissing me off.....i never noticed until last night, but the cassingle issued as blackheart 73215 is slighty different than the version from the cd

(S) (3:17) CBS Associated 45473 The Hit List

the cd version has a guitar solo from the 1:29-1:43 mark, then a sax solo from the 1:44-1:56 mark, and then another guitar solo as the song fades out from 2:57 to 3:17.....the cassingle version has the guitar solo from the 1:26-1:43 mark but DOESN'T have the sax solo from the 1:44-1:56 mark.....BUT...it has a small 0:01 sax solo from the 1:54-1:55 mark......and, it has the guitar solo during the fade out from 2:57-3:16.......so, they basically edited out 0:10 worth of the sax solo from 1:44 to 1:54 for the cassingle while they left it in for the cd version..........question is....does the promo OR commercial cd single contain the proper cassingle version WITHOUT the solo solo.....this info should be updated in the db, listing the version as "lp version"......

Ed:

I have a 1-track promo CD single of Joan Jett's "Dirty Deeds" on Epic/Blackheart ZSK 1976. The CD label states: "Special Hit Radio Version" and the actual run time is 3:17 (there is no listed time). I just listened to it and there is NO sax solo between the 1:44-1:56 mark. Overall, it sounds like the "Special Hit Radio Version" on my promo CD may match your cassette single description, Ed. I'll send you a Pando file a little later tonight for your review.

paul....that's the correct version....the "special hit radio version" is identical to the commercial cassingle version and both run 3:17....this new promo cd single info should be added to the db.....thx paul!!

I also finally obtained the promo CD with the correct 45 version (ZSK 1976). I also have the promo CD single that budaniel has (ZSK 73215), and this disc contains the LP version (also running 3:17). Pat, you may want to make a note in the database that some DJ CD singles contain the LP version.

For the editors, the 45 version CAN be created from the LP version. It's an out of sequence edit that replaces the sax solo with music from the intro. Starting with the LP version:

- copy 0:14 to 0:41 (starting on the downbeat and ending just before the last guitar note before the vocal starts, which will be mid-beat)
- insert the above section over the sax solo, replacing 1:42 to 1:54, again, starting on the downbeat and ending just before the last four sax notes (we're removing 12 seconds and inserting 26 seconds, but we will remove some more in the next step)
- with what you have left, remove 1:42 to 1:56 making sure the edit is on the second beat with the handclaps

I'm not as skilled as some of the others at posting editing instructions, but hopefully this makes sense.
