Pat, in the database you indicate that dj copies of this single run (3:40). All CD appearances run 4:37. Is it correct to conclude that the commercial single itself was 4:37? (Otherwise, you would have written dj & commercial copies run 3:40, right?)

Gordon, both my commercial 45 and both sides of my promo 45 have the exact same timing info: a listed time of (3:40), but an actual time of (3:37). And I was VERY careful to capture EVERY millisecond of its fade-in intro. And although it was very early in this format's existance, I also happen to have a promo CD single for this (ESK 2789), which also has a listed time of (3:40). But the actual time for my promo CD single is (3:39). Based on these findings, Gordon, I have NO evidence that the (4:37) LP version appeared on ANY 45, promo or stock, or on a promo CD single.

Thanks for the data, Jim. I thought I recalled the commercial single being the 3:37 version, but then Pat's comment in the database completely threw me off -because it indicates only that the dj cd single is the short version.

Perhaps a more accurate listing for the database should read "the dj cd singles and commercial singles run ..."

This may have been a case where Pat did not have a commercial 45 copy to report the run time info. Looks like he has now updated the database accordingly.

The 2-CD "Essential Gloria Estefan" has now been re-released by Sony as a 3-disc set - titled "Essential Gloria Estefan 3.0". Interestingly, the 3rd disc has 8 songs and one of them is "Betcha Say That". Has anyone bought this yet? Does anyone know if this contains the single mix/edit of "Betcha Say That"? It's not in the database yet so I guess Pat hasn't bought it. And I haven't found any websites which list the time of each song on this CD (this would be a giveaway if it was the single or album version).

Sony has been good at getting the MSM single versions out lately - the recent "Playlist" contains the single mixes for "Bad Boy" and "Falling in Love (Uh-Oh)". I hope someone sharp within Sony thought to put the single mix/edit of "Betcha Say That" on "Essential 3.0". And I hope someone here on the Downey site can fill us in soon.

The version of "Betcha Say That" appearing on the third disc of the 3-CD limited edition release of Essential Gloria Estefan 3.0 in 2010 is the single version running 3:40. The only previous CD appearances of that version were the promo CD single as well as a promo compilation titled Hits, which came out in 1988.
