While not charting high enough to make the Top 40 on any chart, I just found a DJ copy which says New Time 3:25. Some of you may have this DJ edit, I just bring it up as I never knew it existed. I didn't time it but it is shorter than the usual version. I just thought I'd share with the group.

Any idea if the 4:55 version can be edited to match the 'new time'?

I'm pretty sure it can.. I will compare them.

If you rip the version from the Ultimate Joe Cocker CD (and I'm assuming any CD source of the song) you only need to make one edit, around 2:28.6 right after the second girl section, "Do you need anybody" cut to the same place at 3:57.6 and you got it. Then just fade to 3:25 (length on the DJ 45 is accurate)
So you can make this edit from CD versions.
Guess what? I tried to match up the DJ copy with the A&M Forget Me Not reissue 45.. it says 4:55 on it.. WRONG.. it's THIS 3:25 version. So if you have the Forget Me Not reissue 45 you may already have this edit.

Thanks, Bill! Edit points were simple and it makes this song a little more bearable at 3:25!

Isn't there a pitch difference between the commercial 45 and LP?

Very slight difference in pitch. My turntable is very accurate but it wasn't worth noting.

So from what I understand there is the following:
A 3:25 mono promo edit.
A 4:14 LP version in stereo from 1968
A 5:12 longer version which appears on numerous comps
Does anyone know what to call the 5:12 version?
