The database currently lists "neither" for several CDs with a (4:28) version of Foghat's "Drivin' Wheel." Given that some promo copies run (4:30), could this possibly be the longer DJ edit?

That 4:28 version is a different mix...

Another question, if you don't mind, is the 3:43 stock version of "Drivin' Wheel" the same as the DJ edit at 3:43?

To edtop40:

I have the 4:28 version on Rhino's 'Best Of' CD.

I own the vinyl 'Night Shift' album which is labeled 5:11.

The 4:28 version has somewhat different instrument levels, slightly different stereo placement, and overall less midrange.

It is a diferent mix than the LP version. I *believe* the 45 was an edit of the LP mix, but I don't have the 45 to actively compare.

Rockin' song; excellent production by the late, great Dan Hartman.

so what you are saying is the 4:28 version on the best of cd is different than the lp version?.....if that's the case then i'm ok with that assesment because the 4:28 version is identical to the vinyl 45 version excepted faded to 3:47.....just wanted to confirm my suspicions...

Ed, thanks for reporting!

Apparently the 45 was a remix/edit of the LP, & the 4:28 version just might be the long side of the promo 45!!

Revisiting this one, the 45 version can be recreated, as
Ed says, by fading the 4:28 version starting at 3:38 to
3:48. You'll need to pitch up what you have left as my
copy of the 45 and another copy of the 45 I have both run
3:46.
