my commercial cassingle issued as a&m 1274 states a run time of 4:12 on the cassingles sleeve and face but actually runs 4:10.....it is also noted as the "remix" version....the cassingle version is NOT the same as the cd version from "living under june"....i found the proper 45/cassingle version (i don't THINK there was a vinyl 45 issued) on the promo cd single issued as amcdp 0017-2...tracks listed below

1-insensitive "remix" (listed 4:12, runs 4:10)
2-insensitive "lp version" (listed 4:12, runs 4:10)

btw...the commercial cd single (which was becoming more and more common as a single format at the time)....was issued as a&m 1276, and not as a&m 1274, and contained the below tracks

1-insensitive "lp version" (listed 4:16, runs 4:13)
2-gasoline (live from kkos) (listed 4:18, runs 4:17)

this info should be noted in the db

I remember hearing the remixed version of "Insensitive" on at least one Top 40 station in my area, but I never realized this version was issued on the cassette single. (I'm more accustomed to hearing the CD single/LP version.) Thanks for clearing this up, Ed!

"Insensitive" was not released on a US commercial 45 until the remix appeared as the 'B' side of "Good Mother" in the fall of 1996.

The database currently states the following comment for Jann Arden's "Insensitive":

(the cassette single runs (4:10) the "remix" version and (4:10) the "LP version" )

It appears this comment contains some inaccuracies because, based on Ed's initial post on this subject, the cassette single contains the "remix" version running 4:10, while the commercial CD single contains the "LP version" running 4:13, not 4:10 as stated on the label. I'm not aware of any commercial single format containing both versions. Incidentally, my 4-track maxi-CD single also consists of the "LP version" and has an actual run time of 4:14 (the remaining three tracks are album cuts).

However, I do notice some web page listings on various retail websites like eBay and Half.com show Track 1 of the "Insensitive" 2-track commercial CD single with a "CHR Remix" description. I believe this remix didn't surface until later into the song's chart run, so I'm wondering if some later pressings of the 2-track commercial CD single may indeed have contained the remix. Does anyone have such a copy with the remix?

All I have is the promo CD single AMCDP 0017 2 which contains the same 2 versions as Edtop40's cassette.

This is one of those where the LP version sounds better than the remix and was the one I heard most on the radio. Am I alone in thinking the LP version is the hit version or would you say that since both have about the same running time and both are on the promo that both are the hit version?

The 90's seemingly brought two hit versions to every song on the charts...

For what it's worth, the station I worked for at the time had the promo
CD in the on-air studio, and we always played cut 1, the remix.

When I reviewed both the LP version and the remix, I only
remember the remix being played at the time. I haven't
heard local radio play this song in many years.

In NY I only heard the remix on radio.

I was extremely annoyed at the time that the only version
I found on CD was the LP version. I finally located the
remix on the above mentioned 45.

The 90's were plagued with this issue. Radio played one
thing and the (expensive) CD we buy had something else.

I just want to say that of all the singles that came out around this era, I thought this song had one of the best lyrics. Catchy, too, but the lyric took the song to another level, at least for me.

I only remember hearing the "Remix" on my local radio
stations. I much prefer the "Remix" and cannot find it
on CD anywhere, including the U.S. promo CD (which,
again, I cannot find anywhere for sale). Does anyone
know where I might be able to purchase it? I've been
looking to have the "Remix" in lossless quality for
years now. It amazes me that the U.S. hit radio version
of this song is not even available to download today.
Then, again, I suppose that this holds true for a lot of
songs. A&M was really guilty of doing this.

Welcome to the board! I'll have a look to see if I can find an extra copy of the promo CD single in my collection.

The 90s were a tough time for collectors if you didn't
work in radio or at least have access to promo issues.
Lots of hit songs that were never commercially released,
and differed from the album version.

In your search don't overlook subscription promo CDs like
TM Hit/Gold Discs, or similar ones from Jones/BPI or Top
Hits USA (I think they were still around when this song
was out). Lots of label sampler promo CDs back then too.
Any/all of these turn up occasionally at record shows or
the usual on-line outlets.

For what it's worth, I only heard the remix as well. You will find Bellenger1981 that some of the best songs are simply not on CD or have never come out in their single/radio or 45 versions. Even some radio edits have never made it to CD. Welcome to the board, check your PM and find a welcome message from me.

Such kind, helpful folks here! I appreciate the
welcome and the information!

I've been browsing this board for at least a couple of
years now. In the process, I've re-created dozens of
radio edits and single versions thanks to the editing
instructions provided by many of you here. I was
excited to finally become a member of this board.

I am a huge fan of collecting single versions, radio
versions, remixes, and edits. After all, these are the
versions that I grew up hearing on the radio. This
forum has been a massive help! I'm currently adding
songs to my USB flash drive for my car (and for my
family members as well). I love being able to include
the hit versions of these songs over the album
versions (in most cases, that is).

Thank you, again!
