I've found three different edits of this song, so I thought I'd post my findings.
First, the LP version. Very easy to tell because it runs for about 5:40. I have this on:- Big Hits '90 (PolyTel Canada 845 119-2, 1990)
- Living In The 90s (Razor & Tie S22-18601, 1995)
- Monsters Of Rap Vol. 1
Next, the 45 version, or more precisely, the "Single Version" on my commercial 45 Arista AS-2013, 1990 (printed 3:39, actual 3:38):- Ultra Mix - Dance Hits Of The '80s and '90s (Time-Life M18517, 1999; mastered by Dennis Drake and the best-sounding of the bunch, but has the first 1.2 seconds or so of the song cut off!! HUGE mastering error! For my preferred version, I grafted on the first 1.2 seconds of the version from Pump Up The Jam! below.)
- Sounds Of The '90s (Time-Life R814-01, 2001; also mastered by Dennis Drake; just slightly different EQ from Ultra Mix; also has mastering error that cuts off opening notes! For shame!)
- Pump Up The Jam! '90s Dance Hits (Realm OPCD-3601, 2002; very nice sound, just a hair below the Time-Life CDs, and the opening notes are intact)
- New Millennium Dance Party (Rhino R2 74281, 2001; mastered too loud; compressed/maximized)
- The Ultimate Party Animal (Global UK RADCD47, 1996; sounds is acceptable)
- In Play Disc 2 (an in-store sampler distributed to retail; has spoken intro/outro that can be edited out cleanly)
Finally, there's a version that I'm pretty sure was used on the UK single. The song pieces are arranged a little differently - it begins with the Russian (?) vocals, then the opening notes of the US 45, and there are three "breakdowns", rather than two on the US single version. Plus, it sounds like mud, like these are from a very high-generation tape. Total running time for this edit is about 3:46.- Now 1990 (Virgin EMI PolyGram UK 8 27080 2, 1993)
- The Greatest Hits Of Dance (Telstar tcd2616, 1992)

Besides the initial promo CD single we received in for this (ASCD-2014), containing the listed-timed, 1-Single Version (3:39), 2-Switch Mix (6:21), and the 3-Remake Bonus Dub (4:09), we also received in a second promo CD single for this song, (ASCD-2013). This second promo is the reason for my post. It has 2 versions: 1-New Edit (listed 3:15; actual 3:16), and 2-Single Edit (listed 3:39; actual 3:38). Right away, I noticed that the early-in-the-song rap, containing "I'm the lyrical Jesse James", has been edited out on the "New Edit."

Interesting info, Jim! It figures that a "rapless" version exists, although my first top 40 station never played that edit or even knew it was available. A few years ago, my boss came to me (at my current station) and asked if I had this song, because it wasn't in our station's music library. I provided him with a copy of the "single version" (the one running 3:39), and he commented that he didn't remember the rap part. Your post would explain why, Jim!

the LP version is very different than any of the versions I used to hear on the radio and in clubs back then. There are several added female vocals, both lyrically and melodically, in every version I ever heard. I was sorely disappointed back then when I bought Snap's CD and found the LP version was very bare bones. I think the versions on the 12" single are far superior.

I just noticed that the official video on YouTube uses a version with the "I've
got the power" sample poorly replaced: https://www.youtube.com/watch?

Not sure where this version originates from.

That's interesting. The replayed "horn" from "Let The Words Flow" has also been removed, which makes me think lawsuits were involved.

I’m not hearing a difference, seems to be identical to the single version
released here in the UK and mainland Europe.

This is the first 3:00 of the US 7" version:

It's a different "I've got the power" vocal, which is directly sampled from a Jocelyn Brown song. She discusses the lawuit in this video:

The "horn" keyboard can be heard in both versions, so my earlier statement is incorrect. On the LP version, the "horn" plays again right after the repeated "it's gettin' kinda hectic" segment. There is an edit on the version appearing in the "official" music video that removes the "horn" section, which I was not used to hearing.

This just seems to be the 3:39 version as it abruptly ends, so they must have cut off the ending.
