New poster here.   After reviewing some of the posts, looks like I may feel at home here.   I have been creating single versions from albums for many years now. This weekend I tackled "Peace Pipe" by B.T. Express, which is as good as their Top 10 singles. But it had the disadvantage of being promoted as a "B" side in many markets.

The single version is made up of 9 edits from the 6 minute album version. That's right, 9 edits!   It took me hours.   But the results are priceless because the editors did a good job at capturing all of the key moments of the song in the single version.

Thanks so much for the welcome Gary.   And that's cool to be number 200!   Hopefully I can do justice to that distinction in my future posts.

my commercial 45 for the b.t. express song 'peace pipe'
issued as the a-side of roadshow 7003 states the run time
as 3:35 but actually only runs 3:31...can anyone else
confirm what their 45 run times is because the db claims
the actual run time is 3:36

My (same) 45 runs 3:33, but the last couple of seconds are awfully quiet. Mine definitely doesn't make it to 3:36. I wouldn't quibble with anything between 3:31 and 3:33. Of course, you don't quibble with much of anything after you put it in your peace pipe and smoke it on up.

The stated time on the label is (3:36) and I have two different pressings of this 45. The first has matrix number S-62190-1A-RE and runs (3:33), the 2nd is matrix number S-62190-1F and runs (3:32). Yet a 3rd dj copy runs (6:02) with a stated running time of (6:04) and matrix number S-62177-1B.

My 45 has the same matrix number and actual length (3:33) as Pat's first one (S-62190-1A-RE), FWIW.

The Iconoclassic label recently reissued the B.T. Express 1975 album Non-Stop on CD. This reissue includes several bonus tracks including the 45 edit of "Peace Pipe" running 3:31.
The 45 edit of this top 5 soul hit hasn't appeared on CD too often. BTW, it looks like Billboard magazine listed this side of the single as the b-side on it's Hot Soul Singles chart. The two sides were never listed separately on that chart.
