Todd, you bringing up that Melba Montgomery song always reminds me of this one as well, which was a similar, 1974 country crossover smash, that also just eked into the BB Top 40 (BB #37, 9/74), but also narrowly missed inclusion in Pat's database. "One Day At A Time" has turned into one of these "inspirational, country-tinged classics" (who could EVER forget that Christy Lane commercial, that ran repeatedly on TV a few years back, which featured her version of it!) I have seen Marilyn Sellars CDs online, which include this song. But, as her "signature" song, I am highly skeptical that these CDs don't actually include her original 1974 Mega hit recording, but instead a later re-recording. Does anyone know which, if any, of the CDs she has out there actually includes her original hit recording? It is times like this that I thank my lucky stars for Pat's database, which always does an incredible job in sorting things like this out for us. In this case, I do lament the fact that its apparantly-low Cashbox peak has kept this song out of the database, necessitating both extra detective work, and this post.

Jim:
I did some research into the availability of Marilyn Sellars' "One Day at a Time" on CD and here's what I've come up with so far... There is a 3-CD various artist set called One Day at a Time and Other Gospel Favorites released in 2005 by the Madacy Christian label. Madacy is indeed one of those budget independent labels where you're never quite sure if you're going to get original hit recordings or cheap re-recordings on their CD releases. Couple this with the fact that the aforementioned three disc set retails for only $13.99 and your suspicions, Jim, are perfectly understandable. However, I've come across a website that offers http://www.christianbook.com/Christian/Books/product?item_no=CD12122&event=CF - audio clips of all the tracks on this CD collection. To my ears, "One Day at a Time" does not sound like a re-recording, but I must admit I'm not intimately familiar enough with the song to make a conclusive judgment.
Also, a visit to http://www.marilynsellars.com/music/ - Marilyn Sellars' official website reveals another 3-CD release by the Madacy Christian label called One Day at a Time: My Faith, My Country. This website also offers sound clips and, again, "One Day at a Time" doesn't sound like a re-recording to me on this set either. And given that this collection is specifically being offered on Sellars' official website, it helps give me some assurance that the recordings are the originals.
Both compilations can be ordered inexpensively on a number of retail websites. I'm strongly thinking about taking a gamble and buying one of the CD sets to see if "One Day at a Time" is the real deal. If and when I do, I'll be sure to report back with the official verdict.

ok...as everyone knows i'm working my way through the 'S'
letter of the alphabet and came across this song.....i
actually have two vinyl 45's....one the original 1974
issue as mega 205 with a listed run time as 3:27 but
actual time of 3:29 and is in stereo....i also have a 45
issued as zodiac 1001 with the same details......i took a
stab and downloaded the version from amazon of the black
and white covered album titled 'marilyn sellars: one day
at a time: the original artist and
recordings'....and...i'm glad to report it's NOT a re-
recorded version, but does sound like a vinyl transfer
from the lp.....what is odd is it's pitched up and runs
only 3:25 and not 3:29 like the vinyl 45....in addition
the channels are reversed....during the intro the 45 has
the strings in the left and the piano in the
right.......the download has them reversed.....if anyone
would like a copy for their own review, let me know....

| Todd, did you ever buy one of those CD sets? I'm
wondering if this song has appeared since on another CD.

The original on Mega Records was when the label was
being handled by Pickwick's distribution arm. My late
grandmother's worn example was on vinyl, mastered in
Nashville at Columbia's Owen Bradley Studios. P.I.P. was
the Pickwick Distribution arm which also handled De-Lite
product early on. Zodiac version is a later pressing of
the Mega 45. It is still the original version and sounds
good, if inferior pressed to the Mega 45 on vinyl.
