My commercial 45, which is mono, has a listed time of (2:48) and an actual time of (2:47). I only post this info because the six current database CDs that feature this song have run times ranging from (2:44) to (2:50).

the cd version from 'the master' is in mono but has an echo
during certain sections of the song which the vinyl 45 does
not contain.....do any of the other cd verion have the no
echo version?.....in addition the 2:44 'the master' cd
version is pitched too fast...you'll need to slow it down
to 2:47 to match the pitch of the vinyl 45.....does the
'complete motown singles box set' cd contain the proper 45
version?

Ed, "The End Of Our Road" is found on Complete Motown Singles Vol. 10:
1970. It is (M), and runs (2:47). I am shooting you out a dub, for you to
compare against your 45. Could you report your findings?

JACKPOT!!!.....jim, your file matches my vinyl 45
perfectly.....no echo at all....i guess you'd call it the
dry mono mix......pat...you may want to review this song a
little closer and note the differences among the cds
containing the mono mix....thanks, again, jim!!!

Good info, men! Out of curiosity, does anyone have a 45 pressing of Marvin Gaye's "The End of Our Road" that does contain the added echo? Just wondering if two different pressings might possibly exist.

My stock 45 likewise has the dry mix.

The stereo version found on the parent LP and the mono single version are not the same. I'm hoping Pat will listen to the database entries and label them. I'm curious if every stereo version released on CD is indeed the same or if by chance one of them matches the single instead.

Good catch, Santi. The database needs updating for this track still.
The stereo and 45 versions are not the same recording, at least past the
"intro" part. At 0:15 they diverge, with clearly different instrumentation and
background vocals. Marvin's vocal sounds the same to me.
According to the great website don't forget the motor city, the M.P.G. LP
version was recorded 5-Mar-69 whereas the mono 45 was done 25-Apr-70.
I believe the other mono version on The Master 1961-1984 is simply a fold-
down of the stereo.

Just noticed that the mono 45 version (at least the one on Complete Motown Singles Vol. 10 1970) has a very pronounced edit at 0:14.7, right on the word "got", where it switches from the old material (recorded for the LP in Mar 1969) to the new material (recorded for the 45 in Apr 1970).
It's amazing that the 45 went out the door with this edit. You can't unhear it.
