Hadn't been to the board for some time, and it's just as fun and informative as ever.
Wanted to share what may be old news to some, but maybe you can provide some stories or comments.
Being my favorite Stevie Nicks solo track, I never payed attention close attention to its production. But after listening to it on her "Timespace" compilation CD which I've had for several years, I noticed it's a different mix from that of the original "The Wild Heart" album and single versions.
I won't go into details at the risk of boring, but if you listen to it on "Timespace" versus the affored mention sources you'll notice. Another source for comparison with this mix is "Crystal Visions" which features the original version, just remastered.
After reading the "Timespace" booklet, I noticed Chris Lord-Alge remixed several of the tracks including "Stand Back", not sure if all for the compilation, or some were already remixed on their respective first album appearance.
If you know of any other official mixes of "Stand Back", please let me know.
Long live the sorceress!

Yes, this was pointed out on the board a long time ago, so I'll try to revive the thread.

I was listening to the Sounds of the Eighties: 1983 45 version of Stand Back and I am not at all impressed with the quality or sound. Being stuck with the only place to find the 45 here in the US on that CD, I was wondering if anyone found it on an import.
The Timespace remix sounds so much better and Crystal Visions only has the LP version remastered. That leads me to the question of whether the LP version on Crystal Visions with editing can match the 45 version found on the SOE: 1983. If so can anyone advise how to do so?

You may be in luck: Rhino has a new compilation with a March 29 release date that includes the single version of "Stand Back." The LP version can be edited to make the single. I think there are only
one or two edits toward the end.

It's one edit and an early fade. The part removed is 3:59 to 4:20 with the edit on the drum beat of the word "well" ("well you could be standin' in..."). It's a 12-second fade that ends at 4:20.
Personally, I think the 45 edit on Time Life Sounds Of The Eighties 1983 sounds just fine. The drum machine is kind of dull sounding, but when Stevie sings, her vocals sound exactly like they should. Editing the LP version doesn't offer any improvement.

I guess it is me just being picky. My hope is that next months release brings nice remastered single versions of Stevie's songs, some of which should finally make it to CD for the first time in their 45 versions!

With any luck, let's hope they are properly mastered and not brickwalled to death.

$92 for the vinyl version vs $11 for the CD? You've
gotta be kidding!

What is hard to believe is someone will be more than happy to pay that much for the vinyl version and perhaps never even play it. I don't understand why you would purchase music and then never enjoy listening to it (I'm sure it involves selling it off much later for even more $). Things sure have changed. LPs were selling for $6.99 on sale back in the late 80s and early 90s (back then it was the CD that was higher priced). Who knew.

Leather And Lace
Edge Of Seventeen
Stand Back
I Can't Wait
Pretty sure the duet with Don Henley is the first time on CD for the single version.

Is there a difference between the single disc CD and the 3 disc CD? I am
noticing that the 3 CD disc doesn't have the 45 versions of the song. Are
the running times incorrectly posted online?

The three disc version doesn't get released for several weeks, but those appear to be LP versions on that CD release. The second disc is mostly collaborations and/or duets while the third disc is live versions plus songs featured on film soundtracks.

There is a 40-track streaming version on Apple Music. I
don't know about everything, but I'm pretty sure "Leather
And Lace" is the LP version.

A poster on Superdeluxeediton says that the "Edge of
Seventeen" version on the single cd compilation is
neither the US single
version nor the UK single version (it restores a refrain
cut from the single versions) Any confirmation?

JCI 3147 1980 - Only Love - 1984
Hope this helps.

Santi,
Picked up the CD for the single versions (and because Stevie Nicks is one of my favorite artists).
First off while few have been critical of the Sounds of the Seventies 1983 comp which is the only other CD to have the correct 45 version of Stand Back, this sounds more in line with what the LP version found on her latest collections sounds like, even if its a little louder. I would go as far to say that if it is a choice between the 1983 comp and this, I choose this CD. To each their own but the remastering does make a difference.
Leather and Lace's 45 version makes its official debut on CD. Cross that top 10 hit off the list of unreleased songs...
Edge of Seventeen is the 45 version...sounds great! Again I would take this over the 1980-1984 Only Love comp.
Rooms on Fire runs a few seconds too long. The 7 inch correctly begins to fade at 4:13 and ends at 4:24, while this CD release of the song begins to fade at 4:17 and ends at 4:28. So sorry folks, not the correct version yet again.
If Anyone Falls is the 45 version. No difference.
Talk To Me is the 45 version. No difference.
I Can't Wait is the 45 version. Sounds better than what I have due to the remastering.
As far as the rest of the CD I don't know many of her post 1989 albums that well, but if you like Nicks, this one CD is probably all you need of her 45's and singles in your collection.

I recommend this comp for no other reason than Leather and Lace's 45 version isn't available anywhere else. I wasn't impressed with the one you speak of a few years ago, but then it didn't offer her single versions....

The label of the U.S. 45 of "Edge Of Seventeen" (Modern
Records MR 7401) lists the time as 4:10. Can I assume this
is incorrect?

On the new collection, does Rooms On Fire run at a
slower speed instead of a later fade out?

I compared the new Greatest Hits file with another file I
had that had the correct fade. The new greatest hits does
have a later fade.
