anyone think it would be of interest to have another page on this site so memebers could donate scans of 45's, 45 picture sleeves, cassingle sleeves or cd singles inserts..........just a thought.......

That's a GREAT idea, Ed. (Though I don't have a scanner at the moment... but I've been thinking about getting one.)

Is that sarcasm? We still don't have a designated area for P/S scans.

I think it would be a fantastic idea! I personally love cover art, using iTunes and iPod to listen to my music "on the go".

For the last couple of years, I have been searching for picture sleeve scans for all my "45 rpm singles" for which I've made MP3s (that I listen to on the bus, at the gym, what have you). And I mean artwork for the SINGLE, not the corresponding LP. There's a number of websites out there that allow you to upload and download a picture, as well, ebay contains tons of scans (sleeves, 45 labels, etc.). Sometimes, I will use the LP scan for a single if I can't find an appropriate single scan.

I'd be interested to see what others have in this area. My challenge is not owning the singles - I have to find scans from others via the Internet. I've amassed near 7000 now, with something for every top 20 song from 1961 to 1979, with lesser coverage into the 80s, 90s and 00s.

I have looked into the idea of having a separate section of the chat board for scans of picture sleeves and record labels and unfortunately if this chat board is to remain subscription free, it is not possible as I am charged by the amount of data on this web site and the amount of data is very high at the moment due to the existing scans. In fact I am going to have to ask the current scanners to cut down on the number of scans they post unless it is absolutely necessary to prove a point.

well, that sucks, but i understand, as that i'm a major culprit.....i will refrain from additional scans

pat...how much would you need from the 10 biggest contributors to make the cost more manageable to continue posting scans?

I am about to head out for a week but when I get back I will post the costs for you.

Are the images stored on your server? I had thought (or at least the ones I've posted) were just links to .jpg's stored elsewhere.

I haven't posted any scans yet but I would certainly be willing to pay a reasonable fee, either separately or as part of the yearly subscription fee to the database, to help to underwrite the extra cost of a "page" or "room" devoted to scans.

By the way, David, it is fantastic that you have been able to get that many picture sleeve scans for use with your ipod. I use Inmagic for inventorying my music collection (the data info, not the music itself) and it has a function where you can add scans with the data. I mention it just in case your looking for software that can meld the data and scans together pretty nimbly.

Great idea! Hykker has a great idea to just store them elsewhere...maybe photobucket or something. Only problem is if photobucket or whatever server you use goes down all the links will be dead.

Ed, Hykker and I all used photobucket, but it appears that Pat is being charged for the data transfer from that site.

Mea culpa. I've already deleted some of my less-pointed scans.

Maybe there can be a one-week picture rule: they're deleted after one week.

The one week rule is a decent idea, but it's a lot of work to scan, upload, and post links to the photos. If they're only up for a week, would it even be worth the hassle?

What if instead of imbedding the image in your post, you just post a link to it? That way, the image/data is not appearing in the posts---you instead get redirected to photobucket to view the scan.

Aaron, that's a good idea! In these economically challenged times, I'm sure there are quite a few people here that don't want to have subscription fees increased.

Excellent idea, aaron! Maybe that would work, after all...
