I have Bon Jovi's "Lay Your Hands On Me" on a TM CD running (3:48), and I'm guessing it's the 45 version. The only thing is that the beginning "edit" sounds very odd for an official record company edit. It sounds like someone paused the CD about three seconds before the opening chorus (with just the organ and cymbal hits), and then to start the song, they just unpaused the disc. It's very choppy sounding. Is that how the 45 is?

Aaron, my commercial 45 states a running time of (5:58) and actually runs exactly (5:58) so there must have been a promo release that edited the song down.

I have a copy of the Bon Jovi "Lay Your Hands on Me" DJ edit running 3:48. As Aaron correctly points out, the intro on this edit begins very abruptly which is exactly how I remember hearing it on the radio. The promo DJ CD single was released on Mercury CDP87 with two tracks: 1) Edit, and 2) Album version. I would think a promo DJ 45 was serviced to radio stations as well, but I don't have the catalog number information to support that.

Now, Pat, you indicate in the 10th edition that all CD appearances of "Lay Your Hands on Me" are the LP version. I'm curious, how does the LP version differ from your commercial 45 copy? I ask because they both run 5:58 and I don't remember the commercial single being a different mix.

Thanks for the tip - I will add the dj edit comment and remove the LP version comment.

Todd just sent me an mp3 of his DJ edit, and it's exactly what I have on my TM library, running (3:48).

Todd, did you mean the run time is (3:48) and not (3:58)? If the label says (3:58), I suppose this is another one for the thread on incorrect printed run times.

Aaron:

I'm glad you asked about the DJ edit run time for "Lay Your Hands on Me" because it turns out I made a mistake in my notes. You are correct... the actual run time is indeed 3:48, not 3:58 as I stated previously. The printed run time on the promo CD single label is 3:50. I've gone back to my previous post and corrected the timing info.

Just thought I'd bring back this thread since we never confirmed the details of the Bon Jovi "Lay Your Hands on Me" promo CD single release. Does anyone who's joined this message board since this question was posed over three years ago have a copy of this DJ CD single (Jim?) who wouldn't mind passing along the run time info?

Here you go, Todd:

Bon Jovi-"Lay Your Hands On Me" (CDP 87)
1-(Edit) (listed 3:50; actual 3:48)
2-(Album) (listed 5:58; actual 6:01)

Upon re-examining the run times on your promo CD single, Jim, you indicate that the actual run time of Track 2, the "Album" version, is 6:01. The album version on Bon Jovi's New Jersey CD from 1988 runs 5:58 and ends cold. That said, is there a speed difference or an additional :03 of music that appears on this 6:01 DJ length, or is it possible the run times are reversed on your post and Track 2 of your promo CD single has an actual time of 5:58 and a listed time of 6:01?

Also, Pat, now that you've incorporated the DJ single info into the database, you might also want to note that commercial copies all run 5:58.

Just obtained a Canadian pressing of the 'edit'.
There's no indication that it's a DJ promo or promotional copy. Deadwax is 874-453-7A. Listed time is 3:50, actual is 3:48.

do we know if the edit is 3:48 or 3:58 as jim states.....i have the promo cd single issued as mercury cdp87 and it contains the "edit" version as the first track and it clearly runs 3:48 to me.....is it possible jim has the run time wrong or is there a second 3:58 edit version out there somewhere....

Thanks, Ed. My earlier 10-4-2008 actual time report for Track 1 was indeed
a typo. I should've reported (3:48), not (3:58). I have corrected my earlier
post, and I apologize for any confusion.
