The actual 45 running time is (3:49), the listed time is "3:59" on the record label. (MCA/Carousel 52031)
This 45 length is shorter than the CD track on the "King Cool"(3:57). |

I echo Jim's comments, Abagon. Now, does anyone have the vinyl LP release of Donnie Iris' King Cool who can verify the run time for "My Girl"? I just want to make sure it matches up with the CD length.
Donnie Iris, a native of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvansia, remains a rock icon here in the Pittsburgh area and songs like "Ah! Leah!" and "Love Is Like a Rock" get massive amounts of airplay on our local classic rock stations. Even though "My Girl" was Iris' biggest Billboard chart hit and consists of a much poppier sound, it's amazing how few folks around here seem to even remember the song! |

On a side note, 23 years ago tomorrow, a huge tornado outbreak hit this part of Pennsylvania... Here is a link to what happened that day http://www.pahighways.com/features/may31tornadoes.html - Tornadoes
In June of 1985, the top 40 here in Erie at the time that I worked for, then K104, had a huge tornado relief effort concert. Donnie Iris was the headliner. Donnie is one of the most down to earth people I ever met. On another side note, Marty Lee, who is in Donnie's band the Cruisers, had his start in the music business here in Erie. His band, the Pulse, had a really nice cover of "Little Bit Of Soul", along with some originals. |

Here in the Boston area, "Ah! Leah!" receives heavy airplay on both classic rock stations and on stations with a significant "80s pop" component to their formats (e.g., Adult Top 40/Hot AC). The latter is true even though this song wasn't a particularly big pop hit when it was new, and was probably completely forgotten by pop audiences for many years -- at some point after '80s nostalgia kicked in, those stations seem to have "discovered" it (not sure if this is unique to Boston or if it's true elsewhere as well). Nothing else by Iris receives any airplay at all. I don't think I've heard "Love Is Like A Rock" or "My Girl" on the radio since they were on the charts. |

Some of my other Donnie Iris favorites are:
The live version of "The Rapper" "This Time It Must Be Love" At one point in time, back to the 90's, it was very difficult to locate Donnie Iris tracks on CD. As far as I remember, "Injured In The Game Of Love" was one of Donnie's last charting tracks in 1985. |

I was surprised to read Abagon's post, since I timed my U.S. commercial 45 (deadwax 'MC-12401-W4') at (3:52), but then I timed both sides of my U.S. promo 45 and timed one side (deadwax 'MC-12401-W3') at (3:49) and the other side (same deadwax as my commercial 45) at (3:52). So perhaps not all U.S. commercial 45s are the same.
I don't have the King Cool CD or LP, but on my copy of the 20th Century Masters CD (which is a Canadian pressing, but I doubt the U.S. pressing would be different), the song starts with a drumbeat and a drumstick tap that do not appear on either my commercial or promo 45s. Otherwise it appears to be the same version and length as my US commercial 45. |

my commercial 45 issued as mca/carousel 52031 contains a non-described version with a listed run time of 3:59 but actually runs 3:49....if you fade out from 3:42 to 3:49 on/of the cd "king cool" you'll effective replicated the 45 version.....it is simply an early fade of the full length cd/lp version from "king cool".....my 45 states, in the run-out groove "mc 12041-wi"...both the 45 and full length cd/lp version have the same original fade outs starting around 3:25 the 45 quickens the fade out from 3:42 to 3:49 while the full length version fades out slower from 3:42 to 3:59

The drum hit and drumstick tap heard at the very start of "My Girl" on the Donnie Iris Best of: 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection CD (MCA 088112521) is not present on the King of Cool CD either (Razor & Tie 2016). So what about on the vinyl LP release? Anyone know? |

And, yes, the song's intro on the You Tube video is exactly the same as on the 20th Century Masters CD, so the database should probably note for the latter disc that the "Love Is Like a Rock" intro opens with an extra drum hit and drumstick tap that does not appear on the 45 or LP. |
