Pat, my commercial 45, which is mono, and confirmed as United Artists 50475, has a listed time of (2:50) and an actual time of (2:49). Besides a wide range of database CD timings currently existing for this song, I post this info because your current database note for this song states "actual 45 and LP running time is (2:38) not (2:50) as stated on the record label". I can't speak to your LP findings, Pat, but my actual 45 timing came in :11 seconds longer than you have specified. FYI, my 45's deadwax info is simply "UA-2915". There is also an "11-4-68" written to the right of it, and a reversed "16117" written to the left.

I have the exact same pressing as Jim, and my timing lines up with his at 2:49 for the song. Also, where it says 11-4-68 in the dead wax, it appears the 11 is scratched over the number 6, so perhaps there was an earlier shorter pressing of the 45.

Well shame on me as I timed the reissue 45 which does run (2:38). Database has been updated to reflect the correct 45 time.

Revisiting this, can anyone give a start and end point for the 45's fade?

Sure, John. The fade begins at 2:30 (audible at 2:32) and is out at 2:50.

I never noticed this until I got a promotional copy of the 45.....This Magic Moment started out as the B side of the release. My promotional copy also runs 2:49 like my stock copy but the deadwax is a little different from Jim's copy. It says 11-4-68 in the trail out, but also says ODO and has a monarch stamp and delta number (triangle 73985-X -- the X would go on the B side of the release).

what about the version on "The Complete United Artists Singles"? does
it fade later than the 45 or is it a speed issue. I do not have the CD...yet.

Can anyone tell what the difference is between the LP mix
and the 45 mix?

I don't hear a lot of difference between the mono 45 and
the original LP mix. However, whenever I've heard this song
on the radio within the past 10 or so years, it's been the
remix on the Capitol Collector's Series CD (noise reduction
and all).

As far as I know, I no longer have my copy
of the Sands Of Time lp. I am pretty sure it
left during my album purge earlier this
year, as I had to make room for a visiting
guest and had to condense the collection
down enough to get everything to fit into
the milk crates in my closet.

That said, I seem to recall that the mix on
my lp for this song was very weird, with the
vocals drifting from channel to channel, and
I recall Jay's vocals starting in just one
channel. Am I remembering this wrong? It has
been a few years since I had played the lp.
