BTW, this song has just been included in a recent CD
release Playlist: The Very Best Of. The version on
this disc is the longer LP length. The new hits
compilation omits "So Close" but does include the Hot 100
charter "Eaten Alive."

The 45 edit of Pieces Of Ice is apparently being issued
finally on CD by funkytowngrooves as part of its 2 disc
expanded edition sets of the Diana Ross RCA catalog on
Sept. 29th. It will be included on the Ross 1983 set.

Recieved my set of the Ross RCA expanded editions today and
"Pieces Of Ice" 45 mix is listed as 4:05 on the CD case but
times out 4:08 on the disc. There is 3 seconds of silence
tacked on to the track however.....

So you're saying the song actually runs 4:05 on the disc?

Yes it runs the correct 45 time but Funky town Grooves chose to add
silence at the end of this and the other bonus tracks on the Ross
expanded sets so I'm just passing on whats causing the timing
differences vs the original 45.

Can the single edit be created from the album version?
I assume it is just an early fade, but I have wondered
whether that long intro was also edited.

The 45 was just an early fade and can be created using
the longer LP length as a source.
