I just picked up yet another Eddie Money best of.
This one is called "Playlist" The Very Best of Eddie Money.
It contains 14 of his hits and it indeed includes the long sought after 45 version of "Two Tickets To Paradise".
Its released via sony legacy.
Unfortunately, its packaged in the lousy "eco-friendly" cardboard. (created by Al Gore?)
There are quiet a few in the series.

EXCELLENT news!

Did you purchase it online, because everyone I've seen indicates out of stock.

This appears to be a series released just 2 days ago.
Other artists I've seen CD images of are:
Heart
Lou Reed
Crash Test Dummies
Ronnie Milsap
Rick Astley
Lonestar
Rick Springfield
Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes
Scandal
Cypress Hill
Donovan
Tammy Wynette
Judas Priest
The Bangles

That's great news, bwolfe! However, is the sound quality the usual loud, maximized, and overcompressed "remastering" found on most CDs these days?

And, for what it's worth, I absolutely despise the cheap, flimsy "eco-friendly" cardboard sleeves in which a growing number of CDs are packaged these days. Not only is the cardboard prone to rips, tears, dogears, gouges, etc., but the CD itself becomes FAR more vulnerable to scratches and fingerprints due to the awkward handling required to slide the disc in and out of the sleeve. (In the process, scratches form over time on the CD surface due to it rubbing against the cardboard.) I refuse to buy an "eco-friendly" packaged CD unless it contains a track I absolutely cannot find anywhere else.

Decided to take a late night stroll to one of the 24 hour Wal-Marts in my area. They had some of the Playlist: CD's on sale for 6.99 or so. But, as luck would have it, no Eddie Money.

So, I went to 2 more of the 24 hour Wal-Marts. One of them had none in the series, the other had only 5 or 6, but no Eddie Money.

Will try the one around the corner from me in the morning, as that one is only open 7am-11pm. Smaller store.

The first round of the "Playlist" series was released back on April 29th with mostly country artists.

This latest round, including the Eddie Money, was released on June 17th.

It is quite a nice list of artists available. I also saw one from Korn, Quiet Riot and a couple others not on the previous list.

Paul, the reason I had mentioned July 8th, that was a date I'd seen as a release date at several online retailers as I searched for Eddie Money.

Ed, you may want to try deepdiscount.com

I've had pretty good luck with them when others seem to be backordered or out of stock on certain items.

YES!! After trying my nearby Wal-Mart and FYE Music in our mall, I was able to find it at Best Buy. $11.99. It was in with the regular Eddie Money CD's, whereas Wal-Mart had a separate display. It would have been nice to get it for 6 something at Wal-Mart, but I did find it at Best Buy.

Got my copy at Best Buy yesterday afternoon! After years of hearing the album version on classic rock radio, I'd almost forgotten how much more punchier the single version sounds.

Gives a whole new meaning when Eddie sings the line "waited so long...waited so long":)

good one paul......my commercial 45 issued as columbia 10765 states a run time on the label as 3:07 but actually runs 3:11 and is identiacal to the version on the below cd...

"Playlist:The Very Best of Eddie Money"

Sounds as though Best Buy is your 'best' chance to physically get the CD. If by chance your local Wal-Mart(s) have it, you'd save 6.00 or so.

Makes you wonder how many more single versions are lying around in the Sony vaults.
Love to have "Movin' Out" from Billy Joel without the car sound effects.
Simon and Garfunkel, etc.

What about "Baby Hold On"? LP or 45 version on this new CD? I have the 45 edit from a Rhino 70s comp, but it sounds like a needledrop.

Drew:

Was wondering the same thing myself before I purchased the CD, but the Playlist CD contains the 3:30 LP version of "Baby Hold On."

I saw these CDs in the stores the other day.   They do seem to be including some 45 versions. I noticed the Hall & Oates compilation includes several songs noted as "45 version" including the previously unavailable-on-CD "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)" single version. If anyone happens to buy that Hall & Oates CD, please confirm with us if it is indeed the original 45 version and worth buying.

And I wonder if the Hall & Oates "Playlist" CD, which contains "I Don't Wanna Lose You" (which just missed the top 40 by 2 notches), contains the long sought after (never on CD) single version! Can anyone send me an mp3 of this so I can determine if I should buy the CD for this song? This single version is one of my most wanted songs on CD! Every CD that's ever had this song has the album mix. And the one H&O CD that went out of its way to include single versions of every song didn't contain this song at all. Usually, it's only on their double-CD compilations, as it's not one of their biggest hits, so I was surprised to see it even on this.

I checked Amazon and answered my own question.
The CD has 8 single versions. It even spells it out on Amazon:

1. Sara Smile - Hall & Oates
2. Rich Girl
3. Back Together Again
4. Don't Change [45 Version]
5. I Don't Wanna Lose You [45 Version]
6. Kiss on My List [45 Version]
7. Private Eyes
8. I Can't Go for That (No Can Do) [45 Version]
9. Your Imagination [45 Version]
10. One on One [45 Version]
11. Family Man
12. Adult Education [45 Version]
13. Out of Touch [Video Mix]
14. Evyething Your Heart Desires [45 Version]

So I just ordered mine.

Incidentally, there's a Dolly Parton "Playlist" CD, and I was hoping it would have the single mix of "Think About Love" (a #1 hit on the country chart), which has never been on CD anywhere in the world, but unfortunately, the song isn't even included on the CD.

Gordon, let us know if the version of "Kiss On My List" is actually the 45 version. The true 45 has never been on CD before (the shorter versions on CD are edits to replicate the 45 but are not correct--only the Billboard Top Hits 1981 version came close, but they made one editing error).

Curiosity got the best of me and wandered over to my neighborhood Wal-Mart. They had the Playlist CD for Hall & Oates in stock. And, I'm happy to report, these are the correct 45 versions, including "I Can't Go For That" which matches my promo 45, so this makes the first ever CD appearance for that track.

Odd though, all the Playlist CD's that contain album versions are 6 something, yet this Hall & Oates was 11.99.
Guess we gots to pay more for those elusive 45 versions!!

John sent me an MP3 of "Kiss On My List." I can verify that the correct 45 version was used there as well.

Okay, but which side of your promo 45 -- the remix side or the album edit side?

Remix side or Club Mix at it was called. It is the 3:56 edit.

Just got my copy of Hall & Oates at Wal-Mart for $12.46 (yikes)! Still, worth every penny to finally have all of those single versions in one shot.

Another piece of good news about the Hall & Oates and Eddie Money discs is that the rare 45 versions on these are mastered pretty well. I feared that the volume levels would be brickwalled, but that does not appear to be the case.

"Two Tickets To Paradise" sounds so much better on this disc than even my best needledrop...I could never seem to find a 45 of this that didn't have distortion. And while the 45 version of "Your Imagination" could be recreated from the 12" version on the deluxe CD of "Private Eyes", that track was brickwalled on that CD. Not the case here, as "Your Imagination" sounds quite good.

A big thank you to whoever took the time to find these long-elusive 45 versions and include them on these CDs.

It's funny, just 2 minutes ago I loaded H&O's "I Don't Wanna Lose You (single mix)" (from Playlist) into my computer and noticed the same thing - it was not too overcompressed at all. And it sounds nice.

Now one can only wish that a Billy Joel "Playlist" will be released with the 45 version of "Sometimes A Fantasy."

"I've got blisters on my blisters" waiting for this thing to come out. (Sorry for the horrible reference)

Just an FYI to those looking for these Playlist CDs. They all seem to be on sale this week for $5.99 at J&R Music World in Manhattan and they are on sale on-line as well (just an FYI...all the Cameo/Parkway CDs are $6.99)

I just picked up the Hall & Oates, Rick Astley and Eddie Money PLaylist CDs.   All I can say is that the 45 version of "Two Tickets To Paradise" is by far superior. Because I was just an infant when that was a hit, all I ever heard was the album version played on the radio. WOW....what a difference.

Or a Barbra Streisand "Playlist" with the 45 version of "The Way We Were." I wonder who produces this series. I don't recall seeing any credits on the CD.

Or, even the 45 version of "Movin' Out."

Attn: Pat. db currently lists under this song:

(S)      (3:07)      Sony Music Special Products 28221 Hits Of The 80's 1982-1983 (45 version)

I was looking up 1978's "Two Tickets to Paradise" in the db to see if perhaps the elusive 45 version of this song had appeared on another U.S. CD since its 2008 debut on EM's Playlist: The Very Best of... collection, when the above listing w/ its descriptor caught my attention. However, quite understandably, the EM hit featured on Sony Music Special Products 28221 is actually 1982's "Think I'm in Love", so this CD entry will need to be moved to that song instead (and the descriptor dropped, since "Think I'm in Love" apparently has no 45/LP distinction)...

Curiously, what is considered the "45 version"? I don't
have a stock copy of this but my promo has a version with a
cold intro on one side, and one with a :21 intro (marked
"edit") on the other. Both sides have a listed time of
3:59.

ISTR airplay was a mixed bag on this back in '84, and this
is one of those H&O songs that just kind of dropped out of
sight once it fell off the charts.

Posted By: aaronk
Date Posted: 17 March 2015 at 6:56am
The stock 45 has the cold intro. The :21 second intro version is unique
to the promo 45. The promo version cannot be recreated using any CD
sources that I'm aware of, as there are mix differences compared with
the LP and 12" versions.
