The database should note that the version of "People Everyday" by Arrested Development on the Sounds Of The '90s - 1992 is not the "hit single" version. If I remember correctly, there were 2 versions of "People Everyday" on the album "3 Years, 5 Months & 2 Days In The Life Of." The "hit version" was a "hidden track" at the end of the album, while the album version (a completely different version and the one featured on Sounds of the 90s) was listed.

There are also multiple versions of the hit remix. My promo CD single has the "Metamorphosis Radio Edit," "Metamorphosis Radio Version," and "Metamorphosis Mix." The "Mix" is unedited and is probably what was included as the "hidden track." The "Radio Edit" and "Radio Version" are different edits and are clean.

The one that received most airplay was the "Radio Version," which ironically is track 2 on the promo CD. This version contains the African singing (I think that's what it is) toward the end, whereas the "Radio Edit" does not. I believe the video also uses the "Radio Version."

As a side note, my cassette copy of 3 Years... does not contain the hidden track, so I was disappointed to learn that I didn't have the hit mix when I first bought the album. I cannot say for sure if all cassettes were without the bonus remix or if it's just all early pressings of the album that didn't have the hit version.

stranger still, is that the video version is the "Metamorphosis Radio Edit".....which, in my opinion, was a much better track than the version from the full length cd.....i never, ever heard the lp version on the radio back in the day......does anyone remember which version got most airplay??

My cd of "3 Years, 5 Months And 2 Days In The Life Of" contains 15 tracks (none hidden) Chrysalis 21929 matrix number 1-1-2 CAPITOL JAX 2 C and only 1 version of People Everyday. How does one distinguish between this version and the hidden track version of this cd?

Pat,

I can pull my CD and give you a better description of the number of tracks on my copy (to see if it matches your 15 tracks)?

However, the album version (which is the one on the "Sounds of the 90s" CD) is a completely different version and doesn't even resmble that of the one that was played on the radio.

I have now obtained the cassette single of "People Everyday" and I find that cassette single version is the version found on my copy of "3 Years, 5 Months And 2 Days" (track 3) and on Sounds Of The '90s. The cassette single has this version as the lead track and the "metamorphosis mix" is the 2nd track of the cassette single. So I am puzzled by some posts claiming that these versions I mentioned above are not the hit version. This "metamorphosis mix" is not the lead track on the cassette single.

Pat:

Like many other posters in this thread, I too only heard the "Metamorphosis Mix" on the radio back when the song was a hit. (I was living in the Seattle/Tacoma area at the time.) I've never heard the version appearing on track 3 of the 3 Years, 5 Months and 2 Days version get any radio airplay.

Probably a good reason that you never heard the LP version on the air (aside from being an inferior version) is that there is no clean version of it. The LP version contains the "n" word throughout.

Aaron (or to anyone else whom this might apply):

Whenever you have an opportunity, could you please post the complete track listing content and run time info for any Arrested Development "People Everyday" promo CD singles you may have?

Thanks!

Can anyone who has a copy of the full-length CD with the "Metamorphosis Mix" as a bonus track supply the info? We never really got to the bottom of that one, but I know for certain that some pressings have the non-listed track.

I finally came up with a copy of 3 Years, 5 months and 2 Days that has the bonus track as track 16 which runs (4:55) and is the "metamorphosis mix".

Revisiting this topic, the DB indicates (DJ copies) run 4:55 with a printed time of 4:52, (Cassette single copies) run 4:52. But the 2 cds that contain that version both run 4:55 so I ask what 3 seconds need excised from those versions to created the cassette single (a quick fadeout perhaps?).

I realize that the "Greatest Hits" album ( https://www.discogs.com/master/226496-Arrested-Development-Greatest-Hits" rel="nofollow - https://www.discogs.com/master/226496-Arrested-Development-Greatest-Hits ?) is not a U.S. based CD, thus it is not listed in the DB. It is available digitally. I purchased the first track for People Everyday. iTunes and Spotify states it as "Metamorphosis Mix" although on Discogs it is listed as "Metamorphosis Radio Edit". The screen print of the back of the CD (at least in the European edition) just states "People Everyday" with no further qualifier. Mess.

At any rate the version I got runs about 4:56. The first two seconds and about the last six seconds are chickens and other animals.

Just looking for some confirmation that this version is the same version that appeared as track 2 on the commercial cassingle on Chrysalis 50397. I also echo boynamedfoo from his question from 13 years ago in that the cassette single runs 4:52 but CD versions of this mix run 4:55-6. Thank you.

The version I've always considered to be the "hit" and the one I heard on MTV and CHR radio is track 2 from the promo CD: Metamorphosis Radio Version. Track 1 (Metamorphosis Radio Edit) fades out during a chorus and doesn't have the chanting/babbling toward the end. By contrast, the official music video does have the chanting toward end and has a cold ending with chicken sound effects. TM Century also issued this version on HitDisc and GoldDisc as opposed to the "Edit" that fades out.

The official music video can be seen here:

Thank you, Aaron, for the additional information. So to summarize from what I gather, there were two main versions, the album version and the Metamorphosis Mix with the latter being the more popular version (both appeared on the commercial cassingle but the Metamorphosis Mix was the one played on radio).

The Metamorphosis Mix then had an additional two edit versions, Radio Version and Radio Edit. The Radio Version was the one primarily played on radio.

So is it your opinion then that the Radio Version and Radio Edit are pure edits of the main Mix (with the N word removed as well as parts of the song cut out)? And by this I mean the Radio Version / Radio Edit didn't have any additional instruments or different arrangements, just pure edits of the Metamorphosis Mix?

Yes, that's a good summary. I suppose the Album Version is considered the official single version (A-side of the cassette single), but it didn't get any airplay. It's not censored even on the promo CD single.

As for the Metamorphosis Mix and the edits, they are all the same mix. Both the Radio Edit and Radio Version censor the "n" words, while the full Metamorphosis Mix is uncensored.

Aside from the censored lyrics, both the Radio Version and Radio Edit are totally different edits of the longer mix. For example, each has an edit during the call-and-response "whoa...yeah" section at the beginning of the song, but the edit points are in different places when comparing the two. Also, as I mentioned earlier, the Radio Version retains the ending of the full Metamorphosis Mix, so it's a straight edit ending cold with chicken sound effects. The Radio Edit, however, has an out-of-sequence edit at 3:34, jumping back to the chorus that appears at 2:41 and then fading out.
