After hearing that Sirius radio had a channel dedicated to playing nothing but ABBA songs (and related) for 3 weeks non-stop, I decided to create a similar thing on my player. But a lot of the non-top 40 singles seem to be long - and I was wondering if anyone knows of any single versions that exist for their non-top 40 singles, and if any are available on CD (even imports). Especially songs like "Gimme Gimme Gimme", "Lay All Your Love On Me", "I Have a Dream" (a single overseas), "Summernight City", etc. Any help would be appreciated.

A couple of promo single edits to note:
Voulez-Vous ; 3:45 (listed)
The Visitors 4:22 (listed)
The Day Before You Came 4:30 (listed)
Gimme Gimme Gimme is 3:35 (listed) on the commercial 45, 4:45 (listed) on the cd of Greatest Hits vol 2.
Eagle (from 1977's The Album) was a single in a territory or 2 - the edit appears on More ABBA gold.

Does anyone know how to create the 45 versions of:
Voulez-Vous
Day Before You Came
Gimme Gimme Gimme
I have More ABBA Gold and checked and found it actually has the single versions of:
Eagle
Summer Night City
The Visitors
Also, I have an import CD with "Lay All Your Love On Me" which is 4:20, but most versions have this at 4:34. Could this be a single version or just an early fade on this one particular CD?
Lastly, "I Have a Dream" is 4:43 but this song was a single in Europe. Anyone know if this has a single version?

Lay All Your Love On Me was the B-side of On And On And On. The listed time on the single was 4:31...
also just timed out both sides of my promo 45 of The Day Before You Came...both sides clain to have a 4:30 version...both time out to 5:47 - the lp version. 4:30 is roughly where the vocals end.

We'd been airing "Summer Night City" from a West German import 45 for a couple of weeks before getting word that Atlantic was not going to release the single in the U.S. It was probably a wise decision on their part, as even in our ABBA-crazy market, "Summer Night City" never caused much of a stir.

Does anyone know if there's a single edit on Agnetha Faltskog's "The Heat Is On"? The intro is 0:36 which seems quite long, especially for a single, and I wonder if this was edited for the single.

The "short version" of "Gimme, Gimme, Gimme" can't be
edited from the album version because it has a cold end
with unique instrumentation. There is a great sound
quality vid on youtube (Gimme Gimme Gimme short
version). There is also a video of a French promo vinyl
of The Day that times out at 4 minutes (French promo
version). It cuts out everything starting with "must
have opened my front door at 8O' clock or so..." up
until "and turning out the light..." so she goes
directly from the train to bed and keeps the long
instrumental at the end. Weird.

The short verson on my promo 45 has a listed time of 3:35 and
has a fade ending, long version is 4:45 (listed) and also
fades.

Weird! Did you check out the video lthat I mentioned?
Now I have to
wonder if that is a fan made edit or other pressings
exist with the cold
end! Does the search ever end? BTW, if you do check out
the vid-is the edit point
the same and just faded out or is it something else
entirely? Talk about
frustrating!

Interesting. Assuming that the record shown in the video is
the same one that was used, there must have been 2 different
promo edits with the same catalog #. The matrix # printed on
the label is slightly different: ST-A-37991-SP (B) on the one
in the video, mine doesn't have the (B) suffix. The listed
times are different between the 2 copies as well.
My copy seems to be just an early fade of what's in the
video.

Thanks for the info. The search really does never end. I
just shot out an email to Carl Magnus Palm for his take
on the veracity of the youtube version. If (and when) he
gets back to me will have this mystery solved! I know
that several Abba tracks featured cold ends for TV
appearances and maybe the youtube version is just one of
those but not an official release.

For what it's worth, the video was not taken from vinyl. Also, despite the lower sound quality, the ending sounds tacked on from another source. It's well done, but the sound quality changes slightly. That doesn't necessarily prove this isn't an official US promo edit, but I can say with 99% confidence this is not a vinyl dub.

I've just heard back from CMP who directed me to the
abbaomnibus (which is, apparently, the definitive
resource). When I hear back I'll post-thanks, Aaron, for
your analysis.

My promo 45 matches yours, Steve. That purported YouTube label scan is almost certainly a Photoshopped label mock-up. I've never seen Atlantic tack a "(B)" suffix onto an existing matrix number like that clip's supposed label indicates. Atlantic simply would have assigned it a different matrix number.

Bumping an old thread because I was finally able to
locate a video on youtube with the actual US 7" of Gimme,
Gimme, Gimme. (since the cold end one is obvs. NOT an
official edit) I tried and tried to make the edit, but
I'm not sure if it can be done-the first part is easy
enough, you just remove the first half of the
instrumental opening, it's the second half that seem more
tricky-you have to remove the first half of the
instrumental break starting at 2:52 of the album
version), but it doesn't seem to want to line up with the
videos on youtube (it doesn't help that both of them have
really muddy sound). Has anyone who has the vinyl with
the edit tried to make the edit from the album-can it be
done?
