Here's one more for 45 version completists to add to their perpetually growing list of songs to seek out on compact disc. Edtop40 has advised me that his commercial 45 copy of Anne Murray's "Love Song" contains a harmonica overdub in sections of the song that is not on the version appearing on the Greatest Hits (Capitol 46058) or The Best....So Far (Capitol 31158) CDs. The 45 and CD versions run 2:46, though the 45 inaccurately states a run time of 2:50 on the record label. Does anyone know if the version without harmonica on Greatest Hits and The Best....So Far is the LP version? Also, does anyone know if the 45 version has ever been issued on CD?

Nope none of the US cd's have the harmonica overdub on "Love Song".

just chiming in with a bit more info on this one...just dug out my single, and in addition to the overdub harmonica on the 45, it's a different mix and there's a 2nd guitar that comes in on the LP version that does not on the 45. This of course is assuming my Canadian single is the same as the U.S. one (although my Canadian single indeed runs 2:50 as per the label).

I have just acquired a commercial 45 for this song, confirmed as Capitol 3776, and my timing reveals both a listed and actual time of (2:50). This song's initial post appears to state that the 45 run time is (2:46). Perhaps there were two different 45 pressings. My deadwax info is "S45-90801 Z-1", followed by a very light "3776 #5". I haven't had a chance to listen for the 45 overdubs pointed out earlier in this thread yet, but when I do, I will update my post to reflect my findings.

Somehow, I missed this thread originally. I always knew something didn't sound quite right with "Love Song" on CD.
I've now ordered a 45 to correct that.

Does anyone know if any Canadian CDs contain the single mix?

...or, does the Canadian pressing of the 45 sound cleaner
than the u.s.? The only copies I've heard of the U.S. 45
sound like a rough stretch of road. MM

I second the "rough stretch of road" comment. I've had this on the "to do" list for several years, simply because the US 45s all sound rough, even in mint shape.

my CAD 45 doesn't sound all that great either...I can send a dub to anyone
that wants to hear it.

I checked my 2 Canadian Anne Murray CDs that contain "Love Song" (including the Reader's Digest set that has the single mix of "You Won't See Me") but neither has the single mix of "A Love Song". At least, I didn't notice any harmonicas in it.

that's right, no CD that I have come across contains the 45 version. My CAD
45 is actually quite alright sounding I am told, at least when compared with
the US 45.
