Anyone know edit point(s) to create the 45 from the LP version?

It can't be done, unfortunately. There's a section on the 45 that's not on the LP version.

The promo VS 2003 is stereo/mono. Another late mono release.

'83 was about the end of the line for mono/stereo promo copies. I think Warner Bros. & Arista (who distributed Jive at the time) were the last to discontinue this practice.

You tube has this very rare version also.

They call it the (12" mix"). It is in fact the Hot Tracks remix service version from 1983.
Not an official extended remix issued by the record company but not a modern remix either. It runs 6:28

Has the 7" single mix made it on to CD anywhere, foreign or domestic?

I have looked high & low for the 45 version over the year
and have never found it on CD.

Just curious,
my memory fades, but i had thought the 45 was just an
edit in the intro.. can you tell me what the section in
the 45 that is not in the LP version?
thanks

Hi Mark. It's a little confusing, but there are two edits
on the LP version, but you can only make one of them using
the LP version. You can make the first edit by cutting
from (:07) to (:34). However, the second edit (which
replaces the (:48)-(1:00) section on the LP version) is the
guitar bed that runs from (2:11) to (2:25) on the LP
version. However, there's a vocal there, and the 45
doesn't have a vocal in that spot (it does later as the LP
and the 45 are same from the (1:00) mark of the LP version
onward).
Make sense?

Don't forget, ya still can't make the 45 from the LP because the second half of the "guitar hook" is an octave higher on the 45 - which in my opinion is the best hook of the record (nowhere to be found on the LP).

It's the same hook that's at (2:11)-(2:25) of the LP
version, only difference is there's a vocal there, starting
at (2:16) (there's a slightly different version of that
hook at around the (3:05) mark, also with a vocal).

To Doug:
All true. But the singing obfuscates the guitar hook for me!!

Agreed, Andy. I guess what I was saying is if there was a
way to remove the vocal in that section you could then find
a way to recreate the 45.

I just recently re-visited this topic when I realized I
never added this 45 version to my digital library.
I dubbed a mint 45 and just to be thorough I sync-checked
it to the LP version.
Doug's description of the 45 version above is 100%
accurate. I was only confused about one thing, I thought
there was one more difference on the 45 version somewhere
in the middle, but that's not the case.
After the first edit to shorten the intro, they just took
the segment in the LP version from 2:11 -
2:25, removed the vocal and placed it in the intro of the
45 between :21 - :35. All other parts of the 45 are the
same mix.
Oh, and the 45 is pitched slower than the LP version.
As an editorial comment, I can see why they did that edit
and it really makes it a better single. You need that
higher octave guitar to come in way sooner because it
sells the song, and the intro otherwise would have been
too boring.

Any difference between the UK and the US 7"? A new British comp will have a 7" (3:17) version from the master tapes.

The 7" version is featured on the 2017 Cherry Pop release Remixes & Rarities.
A great, great 80's song.

That's good news! Even though my single is pressed on polystyrene, it sounds great - very clean, with no distortion, so my own transfer has served me well over the years. I'm only a casual fan, but Space Age and Wishing are among my favorite '80s songs, so it may be worth checking out. How is the mastering?

The UK 7" version and US 7" version (that I have) are two different edits. Comparing my US 45 dub to the CD compilation version, the difference is obvious in the intros.
