Not sure about this particular song, but I know for a fact that his "Diamonds," the first single off that same album, was released as a promo CD single in the US, so it's quite possible, maybe even likely, that "Making Love in the Rain" was as well. Searching for that would be your best bet.

Ed: I knew I had ONE of Herb's lesser 1987 hits on a Promo CD single, but, oddly, it is April's #46 BB hit "Keep Your Eyes On Me", not September's #35 BB hit "Making Love In The Rain." Sorry - we only got a DJ 45 for that one.

Ed, have you verified that the single actually does run 3:50?

actually i had never timed the 45 because the intro on the 45 is diferent that the intro on the full 5:56 cd/lp version.....i just timed the 45 and surprisingly the run time of the 45 is 4:06 and NOT 3:50 as printed on the 45's label.....

The 45 version is also a slightly different mix than the LP. I noticed some percussion instrumentation that is either not included or mixed very low on the LP.

The 45 version is a remix produced by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis
and it omits the rainstorm intro of the album version, starting with
beat and snare. It runs 4:07. It is available on at least one import
compilation from digital source.
