All CDs contain the LP version, except for a couple that have a video version. Can the 45 be extracted from the LP?

No, but the 45 can be edited from the 'video version' you mentioned (one simple edit).

Doug:

I found the thread that details the edit.

Thank you John for finding that. I'm not sure I did it right, so watch your mailbox--I think I'll need you to check my handiwork. :)

Sorry to drag this out again, but I've just come across two 45 versions of this song. One on Mercury (870 298-7) which is the edit of the 12" that aaronk mentions (and by the way thank you aaronk for the edit info), with the "Bom Bom" intro. It runs 4:23. Then there one on Vertigo (SOV 2415), which has the "Step Inside" intro, runs 4:26, and matches the "Hysteria" version. The copyright info is "Phonogram UK" and "Made In Canada" so it might be an import. Or it could have been an earlier 45 issue. Anyone have more on this?

It sounds to me like an import, Robert. I'm pretty sure all of the "Hysteria" singles were released on Mercury in the US.
