I wasn't aware there was an A/C mix promo 45 in addition to
the remix promo 45. Can anyone verify if the A/C mix is
significantly different than the remix version?

From memory yes it is. I don't have my copy to hand but will check for you in a few days.

EDIT - Strike that, someone has already put it up on Youtube!

Can anyone give a quick synopsis of the differences between
the 'remix' and the 'A/C Mix'?

Thanks!

They are incredibly similar to my ears. Granted, I'm comparing a CD copy of the common "Remix" to the Youtube file, so there's going to a
bit of inherent difference in the audio presentation that it's hard to really solve for.

I haven't detected anything so far like instruments being deleted out of the A/C mix (before listening, I had thought theorized to myself
that there might be a different guitar solo or something). If there's a difference, it's truly just in the way it's mixed. It seems like
the drums may be mixed barely lower or with just slightly less attack, in the A/C mix, any maybe the keyboard pad is touch louder
in the A/C Mix. But again, I could just be hearing the "way it sounds" from vinyl, through the Youtube poster's setup. The A/C Mix just
isn't as different to the regular Remix as I had expected. But that's just my opinion. Maybe someone more familiar with the song will
key in on something that I haven't noticed yet.

I compared a dub of Chuck's promo 45 to the Remix on CD, and I also didn't hear any notable differences between the two.

Was this a ploy by the record company to get spins on A/C
stations?

The promo 45 says (Remix) just below the run time, as well as [AC Mix] at
the bottom of the label. Seems like the latter was to clarify that the “Remix”
intended for AC.

Thanks for all the information people!

I immediately noticed the sound difference between the LP
mix and the "(remix)" - but I couldn't really tell the
difference between the "(remix)" and the "(remix) A/C mix".

I know the remix(es) are by Bob Rock, but I believe the
original LP version was mixed by him too.

I'm still a bit confused. Are you saying on one side of the 45 it says both
"Remix" and "AC Mix" on the label, and therefore, they are one and the same?

The label of my promo 45 (PRO-S-3078) has a time of 3.54 printed on both sides with (Remix) printed underneath. Under the song title it reads A/C Mix.

On my other promo 45 (7-27986-A) the printed time reads 3.53 on both sides with (Remix) underneath. There is no mention of A/C Mix on the label.

That is correct. You can see a picture of it on Discogs:

Thanks Aaron. I have the remix on an import We All Sleep Alone CD single.
Though the remix must have been available in the US, I guess the first time I
came across it was this import. So I have it - though it mentions nothing of an
AC mix. So I'm glad to learn I already have that, too!

I took a look at pic you linked to on Discogs. Usually when 2 mixes are listed
on a single (be it CD, maxi, whatever), it refers to 2 different mixes. This is the
only time in my recollection that 2 mixes were listed on a single, and it was
referring to just ONE version. lol.

Yeah, I think in this case it was more to point out to AC programmers that the song was intended for them. So, yes, it was the same "Remix" sent to CHR, but Geffen also said "Hey! Look! AC programmers, this one is for you."

It's a tricky way to appeal to 2 different formats! :)
