Does Anyone know where to find the correct version of this song? It's not on the "Best Of" CD; that's an alternate version. That same version appears in nice stereo on the Quality CD "The Crooners," but alas, it's not the 45. I don't have any of the other CDs listed in the DB. Can anyone help?

Robert what you have discovered is that there is a 45 version of Band Of Gold and an LP version. To date all appearances in the US have been the LP version.

To edtop40: sorry to take so long to get back to you on this... and to Santi, thanks for the reminder.

There are a lot of little differences. For example, at :11, the line "I never wanted wealth untold" the word "un-told" has an ever-so-slight pause in the single. Then, at :13 "my life has one desire" there's a difference in the word "desire." I'm sure there are a lot more. But it's most obvious at the ending at 12:58, where in the single, the line "to prove that you are mine" is completely different. It's in a higher octave and the the word "proooooove" is held for a couple of seconds. I'm guessing there are other differences, too. I suspect it's a different vocal take entirely.

Looks like we need one of our 45 junkies to dust of a copy of the 45
and dub it!
