While reviewing the 2010 Grammy Nominees cd I came across a (3:33) edit of "Chicken Fried". Does anyone know where this edit orginated?

Pat, this is the "radio edit".

"radio edit" as found on a dj cd single or commercial cd single?

After much searching, I found a cached page for the iTunes stand-alone single for "Chicken Fried." It says it runs 3:57. There was no CD single, so it appears the 45 version of "Chicken Fried" was the album version.

Pat, I never saw either a promo or commercial CD single for this song. I bought this version on iTunes on September 25, 2008. Can't remember if it said "radio edit" or "single edit", but it's definitely the version played on our local country station.

I didn't notice -- this is the Canadian iTunes single, still available.

Do you still have it? What's the running time?

This song was issued to country radio as a radio edit with the 3:33 length.

Thanks, Paul. I'm going to have to start buying these things instead of just copying the artwork from Napster. Either that or writing down the running times.

Anyway, Pat, looks like that 3:33 length should be considered the "45 version."

The Radio Edit is 3:33. As found on the CDX DJ Service CD
which is what gets airplay locally on country radio.

I just checked out the Zac Brown album from the library, hoping to do a lossless edit of "Chicken Fried." FYI, the 3:33 "Radio Edit" is a different mix from the album version. There's an extra guitar overdub on the edit, and the intro is also mixed at a lower volume.

So, if there was no promo CD single, the 45 version of "Chicken Fried" may never have been released in lossless format. I seem to recall that MusicGiants never had the single, just the album; or I never bought it... I can't recall.

On the Promo Only Country Radio July 08 disc, the
3:34 version is labelled "Single Edit".
