My old top 40 used to play the US promo of "Follow Me," which features a version labeled as "Radio Version." I do not know if there was any difference in the mix or if it was the same as the album version. It also runs 3:35, just like the album version.

They are different.
The promo (Lava/Atlantic 300373) CD has three tracks:
1 - Radio Version (listed/actual 3:37)
2 - Remix (listed/actual 3:28)
3 - Album Version (listed/actual 3:35)
The radio/album version differences are subtle -- they're based on the same recording, and up to about 0:46, they're almost identical.
But you can hear the difference after 0:46, when the full band comes in. The radio version has a brighter guitar ring at that point, while the album version mixes down the guitar and raises the organ. Also, the album version has an extra percussion hit on the third and fourth beats of each bar, which aren't in the radio mix. I'm sure there are more obvious differences but don't have time to look into it right now.
The remix differences are far more obvious. In the radio version and album version, the first ~10 seconds of the first verse ("You don't know how you met me") is sung acapella over snapping, while the remix adds guitar strums. Also, the remix has full instrumentation on the first chorus, while the radio/album versions are acapella with harmony/snapping.

Thanks, Eric! I'll have to see which version is on my Promo Only CD.

Cool - if the distinctions aren't clear to you without the benefit of an A/B comparison, I can check my PO disc over the weekend.

Andy asked about the mixes appearing on the promo CD, so I sent them for review. It appears there are three different but similar mixes:
Explicit LP version (currently on the explicit Double Wide album on Spotify)
Album Version (on the promo CD single and "clean" Double Wide album on Spotify; has added percussion vs. Explicit LP Version)
Radio Version (also on the promo and has not only the added percussion but also an acoustic guitar overdub, for example, compared with the Album Version)

Aaron had BOTH promo CDs PRCD 300313 & PRCD 300373 and he
graciously allowed me to listen and report!
Here’s my synopsis so far…
There is a difference in the two PRCDs.
2nd cut (remix) appears to be the same ‘DJ Homicide Mix’
on both.
3rd cut (Album Version) appears to be the same on both:
lower-volume near-MONO Wurlitzer-like keyboard in the
intro, NO acoustic guitar strumming, and programmed
bongos.
1st cut (Radio Version) on PRCD 300313 has higher volume
STEREO Wurlitzer-like keyboard, acoustic guitar
strumming, and programmed bongos.
1st cut (Radio Version) on PRCD 300373 has higher volume
STEREO Wurlitzer-like keyboard, acoustic guitar
strumming, NO programmed bongos.
Apparently PRCD 300373 was issued shortly after PRCD
300313 so I am assuming the version without the
programmed bongos is the one Top Dog/Lava/Atlantic felt
was the one to try to chase airplay with (conjecture on
my part, of course).
The explicit ‘Double Wide’ on Spotify has the PRCD 300373
Radio Version (without bongos).
The non-explicit ‘Double Wide’ on Spotify has the labeled
Album Version from both PRCDs.
Let me know if you think there is anything incorrect
here…
Andy
