According to the database, it states there's one CD with the 12" single version of "I'm Coming Out", clocking in at 3:55. However, on YouTube, there's a version of this song listed as the 12" single - I listened all the way through and it's 5:23 - also the video shows a photo of the 12" label, and it's listed as 5:23 as well.

So Pat, did you type the timing wrong in the database? Did you determine it's the 12" version on that CD simply because the CD booklet calls it the 12" version?

Or - Are there two 12" versions - one at 5:23 and one at the regular album length of 3:55?

Another possibility is that the 3:55 12" single mix on the CD is simply an early fade of the true 12" mix.

If anyone knows the details about this 12" mix, please let us know.

To EdisonLite:

The original vinyl LP was 5:23, & the original promo-only 12-inch [PR-75] was the same version (also 5:23).

Pat - can you determine if the version you've labeled as the 12" single version is merely the first 3:55 of the 12" single version? It's so close to the original 45 length, I wonder if the CD is mislabeled, and it's simply the 45 version.

The cd jacket for Motown Year By Year 1980 states that track 16 is the 12" mix of I'm Coming Out running (5:22) but it is really just the 45 version running (3:55). The (3:55) track is not an early fade of the 12" single or the LP version.

Thanks for clearing that up, Pat. You just saved me from buying an expensive CD I don't need. And with Andrew's info, we know there was no unique 12" version, it was merely the LP version, so this clears up everything.
