Hi Folks:
I was certain that there was an AC Mix without guitars at the end, and a punchier percussion track. We played it at AM96 in Cambridge. But I've not heard it again since 1991. Is it only on a promo CD? That's what I remember airing it from (A Canuck promo disc).

I don't have any other copy to compare it to, but I have a promo single of this song marked "AC mix" which I'm pretty sure is what we played during the song's chart run (music was on cart & I was only a part-timer then). The disc makes mention of EMI Canada on it.

Can you send me a "crap" quality MP3 of it (even a snippet of the refrain and chorus)? I'd appreciate it if you could. It's been 20 years since I've heard it, and I forget the difference.

Can't currently send out mp3 audio due to the defective CD player on this backup laptop I'm using at the moment, but here are the details for both of the promo CD singles we got it for this song:
-Alias--"Waiting For Love" (DPRO 4675)
1-Single Edit (L & A 4:01)
2-AOR Version (L 4:15; A 4:12)
3-Album Version (L 4:35; A 4:34)
-Alias--Waiting For Love" (DPRO 04707)
1-Hot A/C Mix (L 4:01; A 4:04)

Does anyone happen to know if the "single edit" is simply an early fade of the "album version?" I'm having a tough time tracking this one down and would like to re-create it.

It's an edit.
1. Remove 8.6 seconds of the instrumental intro, editing on the beat at 0:28.5 to the beat at 0:37.2.
2. With what you have remaining, remove one of the repeated choruses, editing just before the line "I know you'll be waiting when the train passes by..." in both places. After making the first edit, the section removed will be between 2:12 and 2:30.
3. With what you have remaining, remove everything after the 4:01 mark.
4. Create a fade out from 3:47 to 4:01.

Outstanding, Aaron. Thank you! You just saved me a summer of frantically rummaging through every flea market and thrift store from Whitehorse to Halifax looking for old Alias cassingles. Much obliged.

For those curious, nothing stands out as noticeably different between the Single Version and Hot AC Mix when doing a quick A/B. The aren't digitally identical, though. For instance, the edit on the Single Version at 2:11 comes in a little too quick (slightly throwing the rhythm of the song off). The Hot AC Mix chooses better edit points, but you can still hear a light digital click at the edit. (I guess they used digital technology to make the edit rather than analog tape.)
To me, this is another case where they probably wanted to encourage Hot AC to spin it, so they said, "Here! We made you an exclusive mix for your format!" In reality, the mix doesn't sound any different.

I've sourced the AC version long since, and I'd have to disagree Aaron. There are more sustained keyboards on this version instead of the single edit (now when I say single edit, I meant an LP version edit - maybe there's something different that I haven't heard)

To Jody:
Aaron was referencing the US "Hot AC mix".
You may be referring to a (possibly) Canadian "AC Mix".
I would love to hear it if you acquired it, please PM me if possible!
