has anyone heard the version with the single lead vocal on the first line?
Most versions I know of have the singing double-tracked (or the two of them
singing...not sure).
Can anyone listen to the 45 or original LP to confirm what they contain?
The 2009 CD "Tell Me: Ember Beat Vol. 1 (1962-64)" contains a mono
version, single-tracked. (This CD also contains a 2-track stereo "Yesterday's
Gone" underdub - missing the guitar).

The original World Artists 45 single has double tracked vocals as does the Green Swirl Capitol Starline reissue single. Ember Records in the UK recorded this track originally. Their Best Of Chad & Jeremy issue has this version as well.

Hi David!
Long time no chat...
I'm still not sure of the origin of the alternate version of that.
The first place i heard it is in stereo on an old Sire 2-record set called "History Of British Rock, Vol 2"
(from the mid-70's).
I think the whole version may be an alternate vocal take, even though they seem to sound the same after the first 2 lines where they alternate solo.
I'm pretty sure both the u.s. 45 and u.s. LP have the more common version where they sing together right from the start.
BTW, the 2-trk "Yesterday's Gone" is an alternate take as well, but does use the same backing track as the hit take.

The version of "A Summer Song" with the single version
on the intro is also on the Ace UK release, Making
Time: A Shel Talmy Production (in mono), and this
has me wondering if this is perhaps how the song
appeared on the UK 45, which is not easy to find because
the song was not a hit in the UK.
