Since Toni Braxton seems to be a hot topic, thought I'd contribute. The 3:32 version on a couple CD's is listed as a radio edit. I only have a digital copy to reference, but the 3:32 version I've come across is a dance remix of the song, not a DJ edit of the original.

I've never seen an official promo with an edited version of the original. My old CHR station mostly played the full LP version, which was also included on the 2-track commercial CD single (and I'm pretty sure it was on the maxi-CD, too). Personally, I always preferred the "Classic Radio Mix," which was a dance version, and my station spiked that version in quite a bit, too. The slow album version, in my opinion, was dangerous to play, just in case a razor blade was in reach of a listener ;)

Yes, what's listed in the database as "radio edit" is NOT an edit of the original single/album version; I think perhaps "dance remix" might be the best description to use in the database.

the only version that ever got airplay in the NY area was the Soul-Hex radio edit. Personally, I think Soul Solution and Hex Hector got robbed because Frankie Knuckles won a grammy for his mix of the song, but the only one I ever heard played on the radio and in clubs (and the version I believe made the song a hit) was the soul-hex mix...

The only version of the Soul-Hex mix I've heard is the long one on the CD maxi single. That's a pretty club-sounding remix--not very poppy, in my opinion. You mean to say the CHR stations played that mix?

I have two promos for Un-Break My Heart:

listed mixes and listed times

1. Album Version 4:30
2. Album Instrumental 4:44
3. Acappella 4:29

1. Diva Mix 4:14
2. Uptempo Mix 4:43

I've seen references online that the 3:32 version is definitely the "Soul-Hex Anthem Radio Edit", yet I can't seem to find a promo or commercial CD containing this edit. Perhaps, the edit made it's first time appearance on the 2 CD's listed in the database.

I have both of the two promo CD singles that mainrhythm has referenced above, as well as the commercial CD single with the "Classic Radio Mix" Aaron mentions, so I am also perplexed at the source origin of the "Soul-Hex Anthem Radio Edit". My friend Tom also has an 4-track import CDS for the song listed, with a description simply stated as "Mixes". The import stock # he shows for it is "43214-33642-2". Next time he and I talk, I'll try to remember to request more specific track descriptions from him.

I would also like to add that commercial cassette single copies of Toni Braxton's "Un-break My Heart" states "Album Version" on the label and has an actual run time of 4:28. (Thanks to Ed for once again providing the timing info. There is no printed time on this single.)

Yes, both WPRO and WWKX switched over to the Uptempo Mix
from the promo CD single quickly after the 1996
Billboard Awards.

If you have the promo CD single could you post the
actual timing of the Uptempo Mix? This information
should be included in the database because this is the
first edit of the Soul-Hex Anthem Vocal that was
serviced to radio, which I would consider a hit
version.   The "Soul-Hex Radio Edit" listed in the
database was edited even further for the release of
Ultimate Braxton in 2003.

Here are the details you seek:

LFPCD-4200
1. Album Version (listed & actual 4:30)
2. Album Instrumental (listed 4:44; actual 4:32)
3. Acappella (listed 4:29; actual 4:28)

LFPCD-4234
1. Diva Mix (listed 4:14; actual 4:12)
2. Uptempo Mix (listed 4:43; actual 4:50)

The Diva Mix starts with the Album Version for the first 3:10 and then switches to the Soul-Hex remix, which ends cold. The Uptempo Mix has a faded ending.

Finally, the Classic Radio Mix (remixed by Frankie Knuckles) on the US maxi CD has a listed and actual time of 4:26. My old CHR did play this mix a fair amount.
