my commercial cassingle for the biz markie song "just a friend" issued as cold chillin 22784 states the version as "lp version" with a listed run time of 4:08 but actually runs 4:03....which is a few seconds longer than all the versions in the d/b....there is chatter/banter before the track starts and cymbal taps as the track fades....pat, is it possible that your listed run times clip this?

There is a very brief countoff on the LP version and no "clicking" as you describe it on the fadeout so that probably is the reason your cassette single runs slightly longer than the LP version.

I have this on a compilation called "Rap's Most Wanted," which is currently not listed in the database under "Just A Friend." I'm pretty sure it runs 4:03 like the cassingle (including the intro chatter and drum machine cymbal taps at the end). Pat, if you don't have this CD, I'll locate my copy and post the details. The same disc also contains the top 40 hits "Knockin' Boots" and "Around The Way Girl."

aaron....that's what i meant about the fade out...it includes the cymbal taps, not clicks as i originally stated....thanks for the clarification...

Aaron I just picked up a copy of "Rap's Most Wanted" K-Tel 6026 matrix number 01! E and it runs 4:00, has the countoff on the introduction and no cymbal taps on the fadeout. Would you check your cd again to be sure it runs 4:03 like the cassette single?

I listened to the album (cd) version of this and the beat just kinda ends followed by the clicks/taps but they are very faint.

I just popped in "Kurtis Blow Presents The History Of Rap Vol. 3" since it has the longest listed time in the database. My copy actually runs (4:02), but the database says (4:01). The vocals start at 0:02 with chatter and an inhale breath heard during the first couple seconds. At the end after the last drum hit, I count 5 cymbal taps.
My "Rap's Most Wanted" compilation has only two cymbal taps at the end, but the last one is part of the dead space leading into the next track. If the disc was properly indexed, it would actually run (4:01). Thanks K-Tel!

I have the promo CD single, labeled "LP Version - 4:08".
It has two syllables of garbled talking and an inhaling
breath at the intro, and 7 audible cymbal taps at the end,
which decrease in volume. They're way down at -60 dB, so I
never noticed them before.
Total run time, from garbled syllables to the last cymbal
tap, is 4:03. I can certainly understand if you can't hear
them on a cassette or a 45. (There was a commercial 45,
with the instrumental as the B-side, and a hilarious
picture sleeve!)
