i think the gerry rafferty song "get it right next time" issued as united artist 1316 might have been touched on in the gerry rafferty thread, but the db should be updated to reflect the actual run time of the vinyl 45 as 3:51 and is an edit of the 4:40 full length cd/lp version.....thanks for the edit, aaron, from along time ago...

I reverse-engineered Aaron's edit. (Unlike the needledrop from that Barbra Streisand thread, I am 100% confident that Aaron's edit is correct. I'm still embarrassed about my Streisand goof.)

The LP version sounds great on the UK '80s-era EMI Night Owl CD, where it runs 4:41. (I also highly recommend the UK '80s-era EMI City To City disc, which also sounds great. At some point, they were sold together as a 2-fer.)

Here are instructions for recreating the 45 edit from the UK '80s-era EMI Night Owl CD:

Segment 1
Ignoring the fade-in and single bass note, is 8 beats long
Extends from 0:00.0 to 0:09.3 of both the 45 edit and LP version
Important: Raise the volume level of this segment by 3 dB, or you'll hear a bump in volume level at the splice. Out of all the edits I've reverse-engineered, this is the first one that requires a volume change.
Ends on a downbeat

Remove the 48 beats from 0:09.3 to 0:32.6 of the LP version.

Segment 2
Begins on a downbeat
Extends from 0:09.3 to 3:25.2 of the 45 edit
Extends from 0:32.6 to 3:48.5 of the LP version
Ends on a snare hit

Remove the 32 beats from 3:48.5 to 4:03.5 of the LP version.

Segment 3
Begins on a snare hit
Extends from 3:25.2 to 3:52.9 of the 45 edit
Extends from 4:03.5 to 4:31.2 of the LP version
Ends on a downbeat that has a snare hit on it

Fade
16 beats long
Begins and ends on a downbeat
Extends from 3:45.5 to 3:52.9 of the 45 edit
Extends from 4:23.8 to 4:31.2 of the LP version

Your mixdown will run 3:52.9, with edits at 0:09.3 and 3:25.2, and a 16-beat fade from 3:45.5 to 3:52.9.

Wow. I'm only 57.6% confident in my edit. I'm hoping I get it right next time. ;)
