Does anyone recall which mix of "Take Me There" by Blackstreet & Mya received the most airplay on CHR? In my local market, I seem to recall only hearing the "Want U Back Mix" which replayed the tune of "I Want You Back" by Jackson 5.

I cannot remember. Our competitor played that song, but our MD refused because of it sounding like a kid's song??

Here's the promo info if needed:

Blackstreet & Mya featuring Ma$e & Blinky Blink
Take Me There INTSP-6494
1. Want U Back Mix 3:19, actual 3:57!
2. Want U Back Mix (No Rap Version) 3:19, actual 3:19
3. Album Version 4:01, actual 4:02

Hmm, there must have been more than one promo CD, because another one exists that has the original mixes (no "Want U Back Mix"). The original mix sounds even more like a kids song.

If memory recalls, they played two different versions
here.

Blackstreet & Mya Feat. Ma$e & Blinky Blink
Take Me There INT5P-6474
1. Radio Version 4:01
2. Album Version 5:02
3. Instrumental 5:01

The 'Want U Back Mixes' are on a another promo. The
version they started spinning first was the radio
version, it's a shortened version of the 12" Album
Version.

Both Promo Only and RPM Top Hits have the "Want U Back Mix", but the running time on both are 3:42. Is that actually the 3:57 track, faded 15 seconds early?

It's a long quiet fade and when zoomed in there's audio, but very quiet.

i also have the promo cd single issued as interscope int5p-6474 with below tracks

1-radio version (4:01 listed; 4:02 actual)
2-album version (5:02 listed; 5:01 actual)
3-instrumental (5:01 listed; 5:00 actual)

questions is.....if the album version runs 5:01, why doesn't the album version show in the d/b.....was the album version ever released on an album???

Ed as far as I know the parent album for "Take Me There" is the soundtrack to "The Rugrats Movie" so I do not know
where the (5:01) version you have on a dj cd single comes from.

I have what's called the "Big Yams Remix" of Blackstreet & Mya featuring Mase & Blinky Blink's "Take Me There" on my Promo Only Mainstream Radio DJ CD subscription series and it runs 3:54. It samples the Jackson 5's "I Want You Back", contains the rap verses by Mase, and features a "frog-like" voice uttering random mono-syllabic words like "yeah", "uh", and "right" throughout the song (Is this the voice of Blinky Blink?)

Does anyone know if this aforementioned remix on my Promo Only disc is the same as the "Want You Back Mix" on the promo CD single, but faded :03 early? Also, does the 4:01 Radio Version of "Take Me There" feature the "I Want You Back" sample or is it a completely different mix altogether?

Can't speak for what appears on the various versions (except to say that the
"Want You Back Mix" is vastly more radio-friendly than the original which
sounded like it was played on a child's toy), but just wanted to say that
Mase does the first half of the rap break (ending with "Phil and Lil"), and
Blinky Blink does the second half. The frog like voice may be Teddy Riley
(who produced the song).

I have an MP3 running about 3:42 that has a :01 intro labeled as "Radio Version Without Intro". You cannot cut off the intro from the Radio Version because it has unique audio. I have no
other information which leads me to believe that a third promo CD exists. All of these promo edits have always sounded as if they were sourced from vinyl.

I do have a CD-R promo that has a 3:45 version. As soon as I'm able,
I'll pull it out and post the details.

I finally had a chance to retrieve my promo CD singles for "Take Me There." I have an official Interscope promo CD-R containing the "Radio Version w/o Intro." It has no listed time, but the actual time is 3:43.

I also have a promo CD-R from Bernie Grundman Mastering, which on the label says "Reference disc only." This has the "Main Version w/Edit" and a printed and actual time of 5:02.

Mentioned earlier in the thread is INT5P-6474, but only the printed times are mentioned, so here are the full details:

INT5P-6474
1. Radio Version (listed 4:01; actual 4:03)
2. Album Version (listed & actual 5:02)
3. Instrumental (listed & actual 5:01)

I also have this promo CD:

INT5P-6478
1. Album Version (listed 4:01; actual 4:03)
2. Edit With Mya's Lick (listed 3:31; actual 3:32)
3. Rap-Less Edit (listed 3:11; actual 3:12)

All of the above versions are the same basic mix as the LP version, just with various parts removed or edited. It seems like they were originally set on using the 5:02 version on the soundtrack album but changed their minds and went with the 4:03 version instead.

Just picked up yet another promo CD for this one. It has no catalog number but contains the following:

1. Big Yams Remix (No Intro, No Rap) (actual 3:11)

This is the same as the "Want U Back Mix (No Rap Version)," but this version has a :10 instrumental intro, and then the chorus begins.

For some reason, it was a bit of a fad in the mid-late 90s
to put fake vinyl noise in songs, especially in the intro.
It was more common on R&B songs as opposed to pop or rock.
I recall that we played one song (don't recall what it
was...the song was a stiff) that had fake cueburn on it.

I doubt very much that these ever even appeared on vinyl,
much less were sourced from it.
