Pat, you mention TOM JONES 1968 DELILAH (LP version) for all occurences. What's different about it and the (presumably mono) 45?

Also 4 Seasons 1967 C'Mon Marianne.

thanks guys.

and another couple to determine the 45 vs. LP difference... Sam and David - Soul Man. Also Pat, you state that on Golden Age Of Black Music (1960-1970) (LP version). Is this correct.

ARETHA FRANKLIN
1968 I SAY A LITTLE PRAYER

ppppPLEASE help!

btw, in my own little database of my own CDs that I wrote in MS Access years ago, I track these differences (text info) when I can. crazy or what! he he

There were two different 45 mixes for C'mon Marianne, one on the black Philips label and one on the blue Philips label....one's mix was considerably faster and had more punch to it, the other one was slower, lp speed i guess.

OK David, here are your answers.

Delilah -- The 45 is a different vocal take than the LP. Listen to the line "and she laughed no more" at 1:34-1:38.

C'mon Marianne - When the middle section of "Marianne" singing ends at about 1:18 and right before the music pitch change, it sounds like the background singers go "ohhhhhhhhh" downward a bit on the 45. You will not hear that on the stereo LP version.

I Say A Little Prayer - The 45 version has yet to be released (in the US anyway). The 45 and LP version are identical up to the 2:15 mark where there is an edit.

Soul Man - There is a line at the beginning (:17) that goes "comin' to you" on the 45 and "comin' to ya" on the LP.

Just picked up a stock 45 of "I Say A Little Prayer" from Aretha at a corner shop. Matrix is A-14894-1. From my determination, the 45 and LP are the same up to 1:39.856.
To recreate the 45, remove from 1:39.856 to 2:30.972. That's it! Run time is 2:41. I used the 30 Greatest Hits version to edit.

Another way you can tell the difference between the 45 mono and Lp version of "Soul Man" is midday through (sorry I don't have the exact time) an instrumental break they sing over the break.
Whereas on the 45 mono version there is no singing.

I've seen "Aretha's Gold" on CD. The original vinyl LP has the 45 edit of "I Say A Little Prayer". Doesn't the CD have it too?

Yes, the main difference of telling the mono 45 vs. the stereo LP mix of "Soul Man" is in the very first line. He sings "Comin' to YOU" with an upswing in his tone.

The digital online version of Aretha's Gold has the 3:35 LP version of "I Say A Little Prayer."

Pat,

The database has a small error in the timing of on the only appearance of
the 45 version of Aretha Franklin - I Say A Little Prayer on a US CD Atlantic
Soul (1959-1975). You have 3:41; it should be 2:41 from what I read here.
