Here's another case where there are 2 different 45 versions out there:

I have a copy of "That's The Way I Feel About Cha" by Bobby Womack that runs 5:03, which matches the LP version.

Interesting! Do you know which one was released first, and when?

I'm guessing that they were released at roughly the same time in late 1971. This type of thing has happened with several other records, most of which Pat has documented in the database and we have discussed on this board.

Does anyone have the shorter version of this song that they can time so I can comment on the stated time vs the actual running time?

Hey Pat, I just talked to a friend who has a commercial 45 copy that states and runs 3:12.

Looks like another case of both versions being released as 45's.

Still makes me wonder about all those CD versions that run about 27 longer than 3:12. Could there be a third 45 version out there?

OK Paul, that's conclusive evidence as far as I am concerned and I have changed the database entries to eliminate the 45 version and LP version comments. If anyone has a copy of the potential 3rd version which runs (3:39) let me know!

I am just curious as to how Joel Whitburn will handle these situations of multiple commercial 45 times in the future editions of his Pop Annual?????

We HOPE to have a new Pop Annual out sometime in the first quarter of 2007. We haven't discussed anything yet about format, etc. As we get closer to actually working on the book, I'll let you know how we plan to handle the timing issues.

Like Pat, I've been wondering the same thing regarding the multiple 45 versions of some Top 40 songs, Paul. I'll be interested to hear how you handle the timing issues. At any rate, it's great to have someone like yourself here from Whitburn's Record Research department to help document the vast sea of commercial 45 pressings out there. I couldn't imagine where Top 40 music collectors like myself would be today if we didn't have Joel Whitburn and Pat Downey's fantastic books and website available to us!

Here is the matrix number of the version that states (3:12) but runs (5:06):

UAST 8462-6-1-1

Does anyone have the version that really does run (3:12) that can pass along the matrix number of that pressing?

And for those interested, here is the matrix number of the 45 that states (3:12) but runs (3:14):

UAST 8462-RE
