Thought of another one. The usual question--can the 45 be extracted from the LP?

If the 45 is clean, then no. I have a "clean" edit from TM's library, but I'm not sure the source. It runs right around four minutes.

Looking at notes from Pat's database, mono radio copies were all censored. So from that, I'm inferring that stereo copies (whether radio or commercial) were uncensored.

Looking at E-Bay, the 45 label time is (3:59), with a 22-second intro. Usually the descriptions on E-Bay indicate whether they were promo copies, and these copies all had the "Any Colour You Like" B-side, with one exception (which had stereo and mono versions of "Money" and was labeled as a promo). So that might jibe.

Yes. I have the censored 45 and I did it. Of course, my recreation wasn't censored. :) Of coures, concerning the timing, there is noi way for me to determine the actual speed of that 45, as many were sped up.

You CAN make the censored DJ 45 version of Money. Capitol did a clever DJ edit. They took a section from the intro of the song and replaced the offending word with it. Very smooth.

That sounds like the version on my TM library. As if they dropped out the vocal track when he sings "s**t."

Jimct, would you happen to have this promo in your collection? If so, does the label time match the actual run time?

I do have the "Money" promo 45, Aaron. Listed AND actual run time is (3:59).

Thanks, Jim. I was wondering if my TM Century CD had the correct clean edit...which runs (3:59).

Can anyone explain how to edit the album version of "Money" into the 3:59 version? I'm not so concerned about editing out the dirty word as to how to edit down from the 6:21 version to get the basic version at 3:59.

I also took the album version and selected the offending word in Adobe Audition and used the "vocal remover" feature in the software (basically a center channel canceler) and it was one of the cleanest removals I've heard.

A local classic rock station just cut out the two beats and it sounded VERY strange to my ears.

I don't know anything about the edit, though... someone else will have to help with that.

Someone from this board (I think it might have been Yahshure)
sent me a .wav of this. I believe it was on a fairly limited
edition promo EP that Capitol/Harvest tried to downplay.

Being accustomed to hearing the "normal" version for 40+
years this one sounds a bit jarring the first time you hear
it, but the edits kind of make sense.

In view of its mono configuration, I'm not sure which radio formats Capitol was targeting with the promo EP, but at least the college stations were serviced with it. With the album and the several "oops, we goofed" promo 45 mailings we'd already received at mine, we didn't see any need in programming the EP.

The crackly pressing quality was also a determining factor.

Here's the promo EP on Discogs:

The local "greatest hits" FM station (BIG 105.9) plays the censored LP version daily thanks to their short playlist. You hear the "bull" but not the second half of the word so everyone listening knows what's missing.

In 2025 you would think it's not necessary to play a censored version, but this iHeart radio station still does. Over five decades and some things still never change.

Even with iHeart, a lot of entities that buy ad time on radio have rather "conservative" or "Christian"
values (or at least that's how they'd like the public to perceive them) so they tend to put the pressure
on the program directors when it comes to so-called profanity in the music that is broadcast. They
make their money from the ads and not from the music so that's the hand that doesn't get bitten.
