Wikipedia claims:

Quote "Home Sweet Home" was remixed twice: once for the 1988 Japan-only EP Raw Tracks and again in 1991, when it was released as a single, "Home Sweet Home '91", and included on the Decade of Decadence compilation.

Can anyone tell me the differences between the 1985 single mix, the EP mix, and compilation mix?

Furthermore: does anybody know if the version on the "Theater of Pain" CD is identical to the original 1985 single?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Man, this song brings back memories of when we first got MTV in our household. I vividly recall watching the daily "Dial MTV" most-requested videos countdown, and this one would make the countdown when it first came out.

Although I've never heard the 1985 45, it plainly says on the label "Remix of Elektra LP 60418 'Theater of Pain'". Hmmmm....

The only thing I can say for certain is that when I heard the '91 remix, I could tell right away that it was different from the original video that I used to watch on Dial MTV.

Thanks to Chuck, I was able to hear the 1985 45. Not only is it a remix when compared to the album version (which I presume is the version on the compilation CD "Rock Dreams" Time-Life, which is my comparison source), but it's also a different vocal take in some places. (I say "in some places" because there are spots where the vocals sound identical and others where there is a noticeable difference.)

The 1991 remix is a different remix that uses the LP version's vocal take. (Again, I'm calling "Rock Dreams" the LP version, but I don't have the true LP version to compare. I just know that "Rock Dreams" does not match the 1985 45, nor does it match the 1991 remix.)

If the Wikipedia article is correct, the original 1985 remix would be on the Japanese "Raw Tracks" CD.

I ordered a copy of the "Raw Tracks" CD, and I'll post details when it arrives.

Anybody know which version shows up on the the soundtrack to the 2010 movie, "Hot Tub Time Machine?" I'd expect them to use the single, but I don't know if they'd know there WAS a single...

The "Raw Tracks" cd does contain the correct 45 remix. Don't know
about the soundtrack, Gene. I'd actually expect the opposite, though.
