On the various CDs listed in the database containing the song "Duke Of Earl" by Gene Chandler, the run times range from (2:16) to (2:31). I timed my U.S. commercial 45 (Vee Jay 416) at (2:24).

I had always assumed that there was no such word as "dukedom", but I just looked it up in The Shorter Oxford English Dictionary On Historical Principles and, believe it or not, it's an actual word!

Need to bring this one forward. There are a couple of CDs in the
database that run 2:31. I remember that Collectables 2002 coming
out, with three repeats of the end bit, rather than two which
seemed to be the norm. So, was there an (stereo) LP length for the
song? If so, database needs to show (stereo) LP vs. 45 length. I
had the rare original, stereo, LP ages ago, but it's long gone so I
can't check.

I can answer that David. When I researched this song last year I had read there was allegedly a longer 45 running about 2:30. That turned out not to be true. Anyone I found anywhere that had the 45 ran 2:23 including all of our copies.

So what are those CDs that run 2:31? I checked it out. Someone looped the ending to be longer. That version then proliferated to other CDs. (I think Collectables was the culprit). So it's not a real master, it's a "creation."
Why they did that I don't know.
The REAL stereo LP runs about 2:24-2:25 as I recall and has the same basic fade as the 45.
There ya have it.
