pat
you state in the database that the eagles greatest hits cd vol 2 contains the 45 version of the above song
this is not exactly correct.........the 45 starts with a guitar riff and some howls/applause while the cd version on the greatest hits vol 2 cd starts right away with vocals....they edited out this portion
does anyone know if the very best of cd has the correct 45 version because that cd runs a few seconds longer and maybe they have included it there...
anybody help on this one

The version on The Very Best Of (Warner 73971) has the guitar
strum and crowd noise. In fact, it has two seconds of crowd noise
before the strum (which can easily be edited out to have the 45
version).

Answered my own question: some 7" copies had the LP version; some had the single edit.

To NightAire:
What are the difference between the two and how can I tell
between pressings (if you know).
Thanks!

The LP version has a spoken intro before the guitar strum: "This is a song that we learned, uh, from a fella named Steve Young who, uh, lived in San Diego. This is called Seven Bridges Road. I hope you like this."
The LP version lets the crowd noise go longer than the 10 second fade on the single version, including a "thank you" at 3:15. Of course the version from the LP doesn't fade the crowd noise, either.
Otherwise, unless someone else has detected a mix difference, the single version is identical to the LP version, from 11 seconds into the LP version, until 3:15.
Chop the first eleven seconds and create a brief fade up at the beginning, then chop off right before "thank you" and fade what's left of crowd noise at the end, and you have very, very close to the single version.
Going back over the pressings, it looks like all of the U.S. 7" singles had the 3:02 edit. All of the U.S. labels list the 3:02 run time. Spain also got the 3:02 trimmed version.
The 3:25 LP version allegedly was released in:

Australia:

and
New Zealand (who also got a 3:02 promo):

Preu claims to have a 7" single with it running 5:40, but I think that has to be a typo.

All singles, whether LP length or single length, are labeled. If it's labeled 3:25 it's the LP version (and likely an import). If it's labeled 3:02 it's likely a U.S. pressing.
Hope this helps!
