Does anyone know why none of the vol. 2's for each of the years for the
"Rock On" series are not included in the database? |

I seem to remember a "Made in Canada" designation on some of these, so perhaps that's why? (Don't have them in front of me at the moment.)
Capsule reviews in a nutshell: The sound quality is great on the original 1996 releases (most/all tracks are digital clones of some other earlier discs). Some of those 1996 releases were rereleased in 1998 with slightly retooled track listings. Most of the holdover tracks were differently-EQ'd digital clones from the 1996 releases. Overall, not bad, but I slightly prefer the 1996 releases. There are additional 1998 releases with slightly different titles. For example, instead of Rock On 1977 (1996), there's Rock On 1977 Dance Dance Dance (1998). Makes it very confusing to order these online, because they're so easily confused with the first batch. Most of the 1998 additional titles use the same analog transfers as earlier, existing CDs. Sound is very good overall, but just a shade under the 1996 releases. There were also 2004 rereleases of some of all of the above titles. Yuk. And on top of everything else, there were some Vol. 2's released in 2005. I've seen Vol. 2's for 1982, 1983 and 1984, but there may be others. Sound quality is really not that great on this batch, but there are many true-45-version gems on these, like "On The Loose", "Footloose", and "Cum On Feel The Noize". They're all pretty cheap - just buy them all! (And trade with me!) |

I just picked up a copy of Rock On 1983 Vol. 2 because I read on the Saga
"On The Loose" thread that it had the 45 version, I'm wondering if any of the others part 2's have hard to find gems on them. My copy says "This Compilation @ 2005 Sony BMG Music Entertainment 550 Madison Ave New York New York" so it seems like it is not an import. It does also say "Made In U.S.A./Printed In Canada. |

One other thing to note is the version of "Heart To Heart" by Kenny
Loggins on 1983 Vol. 2 times in at 3:55 which would seem to be the 45 version which according to the database, is currently not available on a domestic cd. I can send to anyone if they want to compare to a 45 since I do not have access to one for comparison. |

Just to clarify some of the Rock On releases, in case you're like me and want to hunt down everything that's numbered. :) This is from my notes, and isn't complete, but it's probably pretty close.
Individual years (with titles of simply Rock On 1970 and so forth):
If you know of more that I missed, please list them here. |

| Most Madacy cd's state a mailing address in Canada but these Rock On Volume 1's for some reason list a New Jersey address. For anyone with a Volume 2, what address is given for Madacy? |

| I'm very interested to hear the results of the "Heart To Heart" comparison. I loved that song back in '83 and would love to have the single edit. If anyone can post any other hard-to-find single versions available on the Rock On Volume 2's, that would be great, too. |

The 1996 releases have 99 Morris Ave Springfield NJ
07081, and "Made In U.S.A." on both the disc and artwork. The 1997 releases have P.O. Box 1445, St. Laurent, Quebec, Canada H4L 4Z1, with "Made In U.S.A/Printed In U.S.A." on the artwork. The 1998 releases have 3333 Graham Blvd. , Suite 102, Montreal Quebec, H3R 3L5, with "Made In U.S.A." on the disc and artwork. The 2004 releases have P.O. Box 1445, St. Laurent, Quebec, Canada H4L 4Z1, with "Made In U.S.A/Printed In Canada" on the artwork. The 2005 releases have Sony BMG's address and nothing for Madacy, with "Made In U.S.A/Printed In Canada" on the artwork. Doesn't seem like much of a company... |

I think the main question that Pat needs to answer is if these are import CDs or not. For instance, amazon.com typically specifies in their listing if a CD is an import. I don't see an import label for any of the volumes in the series (although I didn't check every single disc).
Also, I seem to recall some folks say they've seen these volumes in retail/department stores like Walmart that would not normally carry import CDs. I think it's a pretty safe bet that all of these discs are domestic releases. Even if they have a Canadian address, that shouldn't automatically disqualify them for database inclusion. As we know, early CDs were all made in Japan, and therefore would technically have been imported. Despite this fact, those CDs were made specifically for release in the US. Pat's criteria for database inclusion is that the CD must be a full-length disc released for sale in the United States. | Thanks, Aaron. He explained that to me once before, when coincidentally I was asking why a Rock On CD wasn't in the database! It sounds like the home base of this company is somewhat unclear and some (if not all) of the CDs have been for sale in the U.S. (For example, I purchased all of my early editions of the Rock On series at local Target and Media Play stores). I'm not sure we'll be able to figure out the exact point of origin of these CDs, but we know they were sold in US stores and not sold as imports. |
