I remember hearing a longer version on the radio when this song came out in the spring of 1986--believe this would've been the promotional 12" version (which runs about (4:38)). Did this version ever get put on a CD single (probably a little early for CD singles by then)?

Hi Doug,

This won't help you, but my USA promotional 12" [CAS 2249] is labeleled 3:03 on BOTH sides; no extended mix.

There is an import CD called "The Twelve Inch Mixes" (Columbia 468988 2 , UK 1992), as well as a 2-disc set from Europe called "Definitive Collection" (Columbia 480544 9, 1995). They both have a 4:39 extended version on them.

Hi Andy. This YouTube clip indicates that the listed time was (3:03) on both sides, but the actual playing time was (4:38). Unless your 12" actually has the (3:03) version on both sides.

And thanks for the update, Aaron. There's another YouTube video with the (4:38) version that sounds like it was ripped from a CD source (not sure if it actually was, though).

Hi Doug & Aaron,

Thanks for doing the research!!

I never listened to the record, trying to keep it "mint".

But it's definitely the extended version!

I'm glad someone brought this up. I've mentioned this to some people I know and they think I'm crazy. Yes, it was marked as a 45 mix, but it was definately 4:38. I worked for a station where we played it from a 12 inch and we realized one day that the timing was marked incorrectly. Sure wish I would have one of those mint 12 inches. We always received more than one.

There's also an import version of the original album Different Light which includes a bonus CD of other mixes/versions from that album, including the (4:38) version of "Manic Monday."

There is an English 12" Import TA-7062 with the 4:38 "California Version" of "Manic Monday". It also has an Extended Remix of "If She Knew What She Wants" plus "Angels Don't Fall In Love".

When I programmed a radio station in CT, I played this California Version because I bought the 12" in NYC.
