In an earlier question, I pointed out that "Take Me Home" was on "If I Could Turn Back Time - Cher's Greatest Hits", but not in the database. I asked if it was a rerecording and was told that it wasn't. Well, I just noticed that several other of her 70s hits aren't listed for the CD in the database, as well. So, same question.

The songs in question are: "Dark Lady", "Half-Breed", "The Way Of Love" & "Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves". All are listed as courtesy of MCA Records, so I'm guessing that they are the original recordings. Is that correct?

Yes those are the original recordings and the database has been updated with that information.

My "If I Could Turn Back Time" promo CD single (PRO-CD-3602) has the following:

1-(Remix) (listed & actual 3:59)
2-(Original Mix) (listed & actual 3:59)
3-(Rock Mix) (listed & actual 4:06)
4-(AC Mix) (listed & actual 3:59)

To supplement Jim's promo CD single info for the database, abagon reports his commercial 45 copy run 3:58. (The record label states "Remix" and the printed time is 3:59.)

I've had an opportunity to compare the numerous versions of Cher's "If I Could Turn Back Time". While the tracks may sound quite similar to one another at first blush, I thought I'd pass along some observations to help fellow collectors differentiate between them...

The 45 and remixed LP version contains an extra electric guitar overdub throughout the mix that is not on the original LP version from the first Heart of Stone CD pressings. (The difference is most noticeable when conducting an A/B comparison between the two versions at the :42-:45 mark.)

The "Original Mix" on the promo CD single is not the same as the original LP version because the latter contains a screechy electric guitar at 1:37 that is not present on the former. They otherwise appear to be the same mix.

The "Rock Mix" sounds like the same mix as the 45 and remixed LP version, but the former does not contain the screechy electric guitar at 1:37 that is present on the latter.

To my ears, the "AC Mix" is actually identical to the original LP version, but runs :14 shorter.

So to more concisely summarize:

==> The 45 and remixed LP version contain the added electric guitar overdub and the screechy electric guitar at 1:37.

==> The "Rock Mix" contains the added electric guitar overdub, but no screechy electric guitar at 1:37.

==> The "AC Mix" does not contain the electric guitar overdub, but has the screechy electric guitar at 1:37.

(By the way, I find it ironic that the "AC Mix" has the screechy guitar, while the "Rock Mix" does not. Go figure!)

==> The "Original Mix" does not contain the electric guitar overdub, nor the screechy electric guitar at 1:37.

I was thinking about this song today and remembered the
controversy about the video due to what Cher was (or in
this case, wasn't) wearing. A local Top 40 station here
in Philadelphia played a parody of it with someone who
sounded like Cher singing, "Check out my firm back side"
instead of "If I Could Turn Back Time". It then went on
to poke fun at plastic surgery rumors about her and also
that she had just recently been involved in a
relationship with a younger man. Does anyone else here
remember this parody? First few times I heard it I was
almost on the floor from laughing 😁

I'd love to hear that. Have you been able to find this anywhere on the web
(YouTube, etc.)?

I'm still looking for someone that still owns the ACTUAL
promo CD single of "If I Could Turn Back Time" so that I
can compare tracks against the files I
have in my archive (which I think might be labeled somewhat
incorrectly)

Hopefully someone can PM me or email me at
etidjATverizon.net

Thanks!

Andy

The Cher parody I heard went something like this (going off the top of my head here, not sure if these were the right lyrics word-
for-word).

Check out my firm backside
how did it get this way?
I had a lift and a nip and a tuck...honaaayyy < (referring to the plastic surgery rumors)

I'm in my 40's but I'm datin' kids < (referring to her relationship with a younger man a few years before)
My videos make people flip their lids
I got tattoos down where the sun don't shine
Those sailor boys really lost their minds

I like to tease the guys
So baby, check out my firm backside

That's all I can remember. I don't think there was much more to it as I remember it being very short.
