I just got a hold of an old "Silver Spotlight/United Artists" re-issue
45 of this song from a friend of mine to compare with the CD
version. It's obvious from the get-go that it's a different vocal, and
the track is in mono on the 45, but is there any other difference? It's
hard to tell from the VG+ re-issue 45 if the mix is different or not.

Hi Paul, I've been doing a lot of 45-CD comparisons lately and I just did this song. The most obvious difference is in the second word. In the 45, the second syllable of the word BETTER is a lower note and on the CD it is a higher note. I'm not sure that this is the best way to explain it, but it's quite noticeable. I'd sing it for you, but this is my first post and I don't want to get booted off on my first day. (It's an esteem thing)

I understand, but you couldn't do any worse than Cher. It just
sounds a little different at the end of the song, with the wild jazz
improvisation. Maybe it's just the difference between mono and
stereo.
