Calling Dr. Love can't be done from existing CDs because thet parts aren't all there, likt the guitar solo.

Grant -- do you have a dub of the 45 version of "Calling Dr. Love" that I could listen to?
I forgot about a guitar solo difference, but I certainly remember the single having a 'tighter' intro.

Does anybody have a copy of the 45 version of Calling Dr.
Love? I was just wondering about the length of the intro
time.
Thanks in advance for any help you can send my way.

Hi, Tim, and welcome to the board!
I just checked the mono side of my DJ 45, and the intro runs exactly eight seconds.

I just did a comparison between the LP version and 45 version, and the mixes are drastically different.
- lots of extra reverb on the cowbell
- drums mixed louder
- echoey electric guitar overdub at 0:12 of LP version removed on 45
- panning effect on chorus backup vocals on 45 ("doctor love" quickly pans back and forth between left and right channels)
The guitar solo sounds the same to me on both versions, though. Maybe this was not what the earlier post was referring to.

This information is all so interesting and helpful. Does anyone have a time length for the single version of "Calling Dr. Love"?
Thanks,
Frank

I found what looks like the single edit on YouTube but it only runs 2:56. It fades out at the end though. Another random edit, perhaps?

Nope, that's not the single version. It's some weird edit of the LP version.

Thanks, Aaron. I don't get why people make their own edits like this. So random and unhelpful. It's not even a good edit!

Well, there are a few CDs listed in the database that Pat has labeled as "neither the 45 nor LP version." For example, the "Double Platinum" CD has a version running (3:11). I highly doubt that the YouTube user created this version; they probably just dubbed it from one of the CDs that has a bogus edit.
The actual 45 run time is (3:03).

Just listened to the new Casablanca Singles box set. And to my untrained ears it sounds right. From the cut & paste "Detroit Rock City" to the perfect cowbell of "Calling Dr. Love" to "Rocket Ride" & "I Was Made For Lovin' You" any experts able to clarify this before Pat gets it?

I was recently updating my mp3 library for them - and a
couple of tracks i had to research in the database.
The first CD i sadly bought for their hits was "Smashes,
Thrashes & Hits" .. not the one you want to start with
for sure! I got better ones later.
But some notations in the db i can add some info to:
"Hard Luck Woman" on Double Platinum is noted as "missing
a bass guitar overdub" .. as far as i can tell the bass
is present, but this is really a "remix". There is extra
reverb and the bass and drum come in at about :30 in the
middle of the first verse, instead of at :15 in the
original version.
Re: "Shout It Out Loud" on "Smashes" .. this is noted as
"neither..." which is correct, but i can add it's also a
"remix" It's noted as running 2:54, but actually runs
3:04.

Speaking of the band Kiss there is a missing entry in the
database for the song "Forever" which does appear on the
Very Best Of disc but is not currently listed.

Santi, I do own the Kiss Casablanca Singles box set, but I am normally pretty
awful at detecting version differences. Please specify some exact song
titles, and I will then shoot them out to Aaron, for his expert analysis. Deal?

Okay Jim. Here's one that Aaron already is familiar
with. On "Calling Dr. Love" he wrote:

He also added the single version has an actual time of

Good enough, Santi. Aaron will have "Calling Dr. Love" tonight. (But he's a
busy guy, so give him some time on it, OK?) :)

This box set hasn't been added to the DB yet, so have the
pros been able to put the Casablanca singles availabilty to
bed yet.

BTW, the 45 version of "Detroit Rock City" is on the Super
Deluxe Edition of their "Destroyer" album that came out
last year. Both the stereo 45 version and the mono 45
version are included. It also includes the mono mix of
"Beth." Also available as a download.
