Sorry, didn't have room to fill out the title of the song in the subject header. It's the Chi-Lites' 1971 classic "(For God's Sake) Give More Power To The People."
One correction you might want to make, Pat, is in the notes at the top of the song. You have down that the 45 face shows a running time of (3:52) and the 45 runs (3:58). It should actually be (2:52) and (2:58) respectively.
Ed just sent me an MP3 of the (2:58) version. Man, what a cool tune!

my commercial 45 for the chi-lites song "(for god's sake)
give more power to the people" issued as brunswick 55450
states the run time on the label as 2:25 but actually runs
2:57 and is identical to the greatest hits cd version as
listed below
(S) (2:57) &nb sp; Rhino 70532 Greatest Hits
sriv94, is it possible you transposed the printed run time
wrongly as 2:52 and NOT 2:25...

Anything's possible on a post I wrote six years ago, Ed.
:) But I'm pretty sure I've seen at least one label on
eBay where the listed run time is (2:52).
And you know by now you can call me Doug. Everyone else
does.

My commercial copy of this record states a running time of (2:52) and runs (2:56). The deadwax information states only 7-146-1B so the record really does exist with two different stated times.

This just occurred to me. Listening to the "Greatest Hits" LP version that runs (3:47), there are no audience applause overdubs where the equivalent point of the 45 would be (around the (2:16) mark). Is it fair to say the two Rhino discs that have "missing audience applause overdubs" are early fades of the 'Greatest Hits" LP version?

There are two mixes of the song, and three versions in circulation on CD:
Hit version found on 45 and 1971 (For God's Sake) Give More Power To The People LP (about 2:57)
Has a few bursts of applause in last minute of the song. It's in stereo.
I have it on Rhino's Greatest Hits (1992).
Non-hit remix from 1972 Greatest Hits LP (about 3:47)
It's a completely different mix from the hit version. This version lacks the bursts of applause found in the hit mix. There are other differences, especially in the accent percussion. Listen to the line "how can you think of love" at about 0:58 - the hit version has prominent bongos before the next line, and the 1972 GH version buries the bongos. It's in stereo, too.
Early fade of non-hit remix from 1972 Greatest Hits LP (3:05)
Appears only on Rhino's Didn't It Blow Your Mind Vol. 4 (1991). EQ'd to boost the high end, which puts the tambourine WAY out in front. Also in stereo.
My recommendation
I'm a purist, and prefer the hit mixes whenever I can find them. Go for Rhino's Greatest Hits (1992).
