does anyone have the promo cd single of the song "release me" by wilson phillips.........the reason i ask is that the cassingle has a very smooth intro about 0:03 longer than the import cd single i have which states it contains the "radio edit".......the issue is that on the cd/lp version there is vocals which are layered on top of the fade intro which the the cd single cut off while the cassingle has the long fade intro........any help???

Which import do you have, Ed? Can you give me the catalog number?

My import says SINGLE Edit, not Radio Edit, and the song runs an actual 3:49. It's a four-track, also containing Release Me Album Version, Eyes Like Twins, and Hold On.

Are you saying the version on your import doesn't fade in?

i have the west german import issued as 560-20-3942-2...the upc code is 5-099920-394226, though......it has 4 tracks of which the single edit is the second....not the radio edit......the import cd single version does faded in but it is a truncated fade-in........my cd single contains 1--"release me" (4:53), 2--"release me (single edit) (3:47), 3--"eyes like twins (5:00), 4--"the dream is still alive" (4:07)........

Mine's a UK import, UPC 5 099920 398620. The Single Edit is the first track mine. Do you want to send me an MP3 so I can compare them? I can send you an MP3, but I have to wait till I get to work tomorrow... don't have DSL at home, takes forever with dial up.

Will do, but it sounds like, at 3:49 versus your 3:47, it might be the correct version.

I just checked my TM Century library, and the version on there runs (3:49). The piano starts at about 4.5 seconds, and the vocals start at about 14.5 seconds. Hope this helps.

Just curious... Did anyone have a chance to compare the "Release Me" mp3s? If so, what did you find?

I do have the promo CD single. Does the TM version do the trick, or should I pull the single out?

Ed - I just sent the edit over.

The promo CD (SBK DPRO-05342) indeed has the 3:48 single edit.

Just wondering, for anyone here who worked in radio at
the time this song was a hit: did you play the Album
Version with the Acapella intro, or the Single Version
with the fade-in? The reason I ask is because I think I
remember hearing it played on the radio to where it was
cued past the fade-in and it would start with the piano.
Does anyone remember hearing it played that way?

The version without the vocals at the top of the intro is
apparently available on this http://www.discogs.com/Wilson-Phillips-Greatest-Hits/master/234956 - Greatest Hits collection.

Just wanted to mention something I noticed about the video
of this song. Right before the second verse begins in the
video, the line "Release Me" is sung twice. On the Single
Edit/Version, "Release Me" is sung only once before the
second verse starts. Otherwise the version in the video
seems to match the commercial Single Version.

In answer to a 3 year old question, I was working at a gold-heavy soft AC in the early 90s that as such didn't receive much in
the way of record service. What few currents they played, they generally traded out for the CD and I'm pretty sure we played the
album version (all the music was on cart). Don't recall what the intro was like, but it did NOT have the cold ending the radio
version did.

I worked at an AC radio station when this was popular. We
played the single edit.
